Yeah people can do what they like we all prefer differnet cars but what i don't get is why they are posting it on here is there not a focus forum as i don't really care what trhe focus is like as i don't own one and doubt i will.

You are going to get funny replies posting stuff about fords on a honda civic forum

Am I just lucky or what? I have a 56 plate 1.8 vtec ex, and don't have any issues with rattling or steering or windows or any of the countless problems listed on here, the only problem I had was with bluetooth and that turned out to be the phone I was using!
I am so happy with my civic, that I am planning my next one and still have over 12 months left on this baby yet!!

Posts in here (the 'And Goodbye' part of the forum) are unlikely to be full of praise for the Civic - with exceptions of course!

Plus, new owners of other cars are very likely to want to point out why they traded their Civic in for something else.
Either to vent the frustration which lead up to them doing so, or simply to point out all the good points of their new car if they feel the need to share / inform / or justify their decision.

We do also get a lot of "I used to own an XYZ before my Civic, and...." type posts - these are also welcomed

Why did you read the thread in the first place then? It was quite obvious what it was about.

Best of luck with the new car.
It seems you will loose lots of money with the early 8th gen Civic's.

Worst car I've ever owned and I hate Honda with a passion! Especially when 2 Honda dealers offer me £10k for my 56 plate EX whilst having identical models on their secondhand forecourt for £13.5 to £14k! I know they are a businees and need to make a profit, but ***! W all know you loose alot in the first year, but I thought a Honda would be better a holding it's value. They both also told me that the 06/56 Civics are well known for their poor build quality and faults . One of the dealers is why I bought the car off, pity they did not tell me how cr*p it was when I bought it!

unfortunately Bog (and I do feel for you - really!), you have hit the nail on the head

The dealership is there to make money.
The £4K 'profit' that they would make on your car has to pay for:
wages (salespeople, receptionists, manager, cleaners, mechanics, tea maker);
forecourt rent;
regular washing;
the list goes on - and the longer that your car stays on the forecourt, the more it is costing them.
And they already have other identical cars, so taking yours on too isn't going to improve the chances of them selling the other ones.

As a buyer, you will always be told the good points - really popular, difficult to get hold of etc etc
As a seller, you will always be told all the bad points - wrong colour, difficult to shift them etc etc

It's not great - and the biggest price hit with any car (very few notable exceptions) is always in year 1 - but unfortunately you'll be hard pushed to find a dealer who isn't like this.

At the end of the day, squeezing you (us) the customer for evey penny they can means more profit for them = more food on the table.

Many dealerships are (not before time many would say!) coming round to the fact that building a long term relationship with a customer is ultimately more profitable than a short term, one off profit on the car sale.

But that kinda goes out of the window when you turn up saying "how much for cash as I'll never buy another Honda again"

As long as you are happy at last. Sorry to tell you that my spaceship is still FAB and you are still welcome to play with a good Civic if you come to Eastbourne

I am not sure the focus can be criticised as a cheap, cr*p car. I think we also have accept that some people have had bad experiences with the Civic ( and I know people have problems with Ford's too) and therefore feel they have no alternative but to sell there car. I think the focus is a good car and would think of buying one, so I can't criticise it.
