I worked for one and believe me they had many more problems than Honda.

I know some people here think the world is about to end because of the niggles on their "perfect" cars but if you could spend a day in the world of other manufactures I think this would put things into perspective.

Dealers.
Most are great and believe me they actually want to help you it's just some are better than others at that, be it technically or personally.

I have worked as a technical service advisor for a top marque manufacturer and really consider myself as a helpfull person and have been told that by many customers but as soon as someone came in and after introducing myself gave me both barrels and sometimes made it personal they don't seem to realise that I would do what I'm oblidged to do and not what I actually could have done.

Sadly being human after so much abuse we/they start to see customers as problems not as people often the way people see dealers and their staff!

These people are human, give them a chance, from my experience in most cases people mirror people,if you meet someone grumpy and unhelpful that's exactly what you'll get back and the same can be said for the opposite!
Well said, you have summed up to perfection

I have had trouble sending this post, but here goes again.
Bought a new Civic ES 1.8 last may and my initial satisfaction has gradually turned to dust. I know the v-tec needs to be pushed up the gears to achieve decent results, but apart from that, the Civic concept is brilliant, spoiled by a cheap feel to the car, with no soundproofing to speak of and it's not a cheap car to run.
Petrol consumption remains stubbournly below 30mpg unless I drive in stocking soles and to push through the gears makes it very thirsty, so I have had enough. Even 'Which' magazine has given the new Civic the thumbs down and they get feed back UK wide, so they know what they are saying. I have now traded in for a Volkswagen Jetta 140hp diesel and the difference is dramatic in over-all quality - even the radio is vastly superior and the build is chunky and solid. As for acceleration - the torque is fantastic with the bonus of 51mpg.
My feeling is that Honda produced an exceptional ground breaking design, but for reasons probably based on cost, cut too many corners to just get it up and running to pay for research & development. The best price I could get for my Civic was £12400 and it cost £16000 last May, but I am now a happy motorist in my Jetta. So come on Honda, you have the design - all it needs is German quality build.
I will be interested to see what response I get from your 'Civic amenities'
I basically agree, with one remark - the legendary "German build quality" is not what it used to be any more, if you get a Monday car you're doomed, I guess with today's globalization this will be true for any brand, more or less. The Civic is good but could be a lot better if the cost controllers had not let the original project down. My experience: no serious faults but many annoying little niggles /rattles/ etc. you would not expect from Honda, and which would be easily avoidable by the manufacturer - but the customer will have a lot of work sorting them out, at least the ones for whom turning the radio louder is not an option
