Goodbye & many thanks

Well, after a year the Civic went on Saturday to be replaced by an Alfa GT

I would like to say thanks to everyone on this site for all the useful info that i received which enabled me to fit rear parking sensors, a speed detector (by dismantling the dash) and and made me realise that some of the quality issues were not unique.

In the end the one problem i couldn't solve (a rattle that started at 45mph without fail) drove me up the wall enough to say goodbye.

I still liked the Civic, the engine with it's performance and economy that were amazing but the ride and the rattles couldn't out weigh that.

In the time i had it i had the rear suspension and a faulty immobilzer replaced. I know Alfa's have a reputation but then so do Honda so maybe the two will meet somewhere in the middle.

Anyway many thanks again and if anyone wants a set of unused rubber mats for there Civic please look over in the for sale section.

Best wishes

David

I had an Alfa 147 when they first came out. I'd always had a longing to own an Alfa. I did like it but i've never had a car with so many rattles! I could never go anywhere without playing music/radio otherwise it drove me mad.

I sold it privately and the first thing the guy who bought it noticed was the rattles! But he loved it anyway. With Alfas its often a heart ruling the head thing!

Hopefully with the GT being a more expensive car it will be better. I do like the look of them - very stylish.

Good luck with it

I really want an alfa! I think the GT looks amazing. In the end my head ruled my heart and I got the civic instead.

Good luck with it!

All the best, Dave.

Alfas are stunning looking cars. Our next door neighbour had one and loved it. He never had any problems with his.

Hartside made the move too and he seems very happy with his.

The depreciation on my Alfa wasn't too bad. I think it was worth about 46% of its value when bought new

Many thanks for the supporting words, i will miss the friendliest forum on the Web.

Funny thing about the depreciation angle. One of the minor reasons i bought the Honda was low depreciation.

Disappointingly the offers varied considerably as apparently the trade was "awash" with Civics at the moment. Worst offer i had was £7800

The car by the way was an 06 1.8 Sport

I know the Alfa will depreciate but the way i look at that is that all car's lose money and anyway i am driving it today not in 3 years

Thanks again

The civic doesnt hold its value either judging by some of the posts on here!!

Why do people think that every other car on the road is so much better than the civic its such a shame that when someone buys a different car they are instantly subjected to negative comments - it makes me laugh when so many people have started to get rid of the civic due to problems.

Anyway, Davek9 you are right the civic is great for performance and fuel consumption but after a while you do have to decide is it really worth putting up with all the other problems just for that and I am with you in that it isnt.

Good Luck - enjoy the new car

As i say i did like the Civic but without being personal those being negative can't even spell Alfa so reliability and resale worries may not be the problem they express

No offence intended just lighthearted fun

I toyed with getting an Alpha GT Blackline just before I got the Type S GT and it was because of build and reliability I decided against it.

For 6 months I was torn between the Alfa Blackline, a Megane Sport 175 and the Type S.

Now in performance the megane won, in looks the Alfa blew the other 2 away but as for everything else the Type S won.

I know some ppl are unlucky and get bad builds of just about any model but percentage wise the alfa is the pits im afraid...

Although saying that, what a stunning car to have broken down on the drive, I love it.

Hope you get a good one.

I can totally understand why you'd go for the Alfa GT, it is a stunning car. Despite the numerous bad reviews I still keep looking at the current Alfa Spider as my possible next car after the Type-S because it's one of the sexiest cars on the road in that price bracket.

And besides which, I imagine there are loads of Alfa owners who've never had a problem with their car. Sometimes you're just lucky, sometimes you're not. Just like how my Civic has never had any of the problems mentioned by many on here.

Alfa Romeo will always sell, dispite their so called - bad build quality ??.
It's always been the same -" One buys an Alpha with one's heart and not one's head."
The only thing that they have lost, due to legislation, is "The Sound".

Best wishes David and enjoy.
