getting rid of my Civic Type-R

yup, the 57 plate car that I got with 4k miles on the clock only 8 weeks ago is going. there is a list of problems with the car soo long i don't even want to go into it. the main problem is the fact that I drive in Germany alot and when you brake down moderately hard from over 120, the whole car judders as you brake past about 50-60mph - accompanied by a substantial reduction in braking power. brake power doesn't return properly for quite a few miles of not touching the brakes. it's simply dangerous. apparently it's a "characteristic of the discs and pads that Honda use". people in Germany are going spare over it. there's a bout 10-15 other minor problems that could be sorted by the stealers, but tbh i can't be arsed with Honda's attitude and lack of willingness to get back to me regarding the car anymore....i'm taking a loss, putting it down to experience and never buying another underengineered car. sure i could just change the discs and pads, but i have lost all faith in the vehicle.
i have some unopened EBC yellow pads and Tar-Ox slotted and drilled discs for the front on a Type-R, if anyone wants em PM me. oh also the Momo wheels (18") I have on my car in the pix, with a few marks from tyre fitting and fitted with Yoko Parada2s that have done maybe 500 miles max are going as well. I recommend EVERYONE gets these tyres for dry road use, they're so sticky you won't ever feel like you need a slip diff! Try 'em! The wheelset is a few kilos lighter PER WHEEL than std. BTW.
I wish everyone the best of luck with their Type-Rs, shame I couldn't get on with mine, cuz it was a HOOT to drive.....

Thats really bad, because the R is meant to be racer for the road so you would think they would have tested the brakes etc. up to and including 155mph....... do the pad and disc changes not make any difference to you???

i never tried them, but am told they improve things greatly. i had too many other problems with the car's build quality and assembly to bother...

p.s. the tune is 'such great heights' by the postal service...very nice. if you like that, you'll love 'when i sleep i disappear' by cargo city.

I'm changing my pads (and possibly discs) as the setup really isn't suitable for a heavy vehicle, they use the same stup for the 1.8/2.2 S-GT as they do for the 1.4!!!!!!!

I get a slight grinding noise from my brakes when I first move off, its as if the pads are sticking to the disks? Once on the move its fine. They were sticky from day one! The rear pads also produce alot more dust than the front pads, has anyone else noticed this?

Yes. It's very noticeable. I've seen this mentioned before by others in another thread

I wouldn't have give up cos it's a fun car to drive. Sounds like you have buckled disc that can easily be replaced and i would have insisted that should happen before you sell it.

Yes They Have. Just put up with it is my advice.

thanks guys, i'll pop back every now and again.

if i thought the problems with the brakes could have been sorted by Honda asap, i would have maybe given it a go.

the final straw that made me get rid of the car:

honda roof bars fitted. caps on because trim had to be cut. on motorway, 2 caps fly off, leaving trim flopping about.

dealer says will order new caps, fit roofbar base carriers to hold trim down.

never even fitted bars, just the bases.

4 weeks later, remove bases. waffle-iron pattern from roof bar feet pressed into paint on roof. won't polish out, would need to be flattened and resprayed.

car is gone.

good riddance.

i wish you all the best of luck with yours and much enjoyment, great car to drive in spite of my problems.

just DON'T BUY THE ROOF BARS!

I had to have the original front pads on mine changed because they were`glazed` dealer wanted to clean them up ...So wont be using original pads next time ...
