I've sold the Civinfo Civic!

Goodbye to FG06 WTT, the Civinfo Civic.

After three years and 49,000 miles, the Civic has gone. All in all it was a good car, but not quite good enough to get another.

Stuff that exceeded expectations:

  • The engine and gearbox were fantastic. After about 25,000 miles the diesel was as smooth as silk and as grunty as a V8. Except with the economy of a 1.2.
  • The interior layout and space (with the exception of the shallow door pockets).
  • The funky velvet seat material held out perfectly.
  • I expected Honda dealers to be good - some were excellent.
  • The satnav.

Stuff that didn't meet expectations:

  • The suspension. It was not that firm, but there was no suppleness. Every bump or bit of broken road translated into a bounce or a crash. The rear dampers wore quickly making the ride deteriorate. In all, I had both front struts and both rear dampers replaced (three separate visits). Still it groaned and squeaked!
  • Tramlining was unacceptable on tyres that were more than half worn.
  • Steering stability round corners on bumpy roads was poor.
  • Depreciation was greater than expected.
  • Road noise was too great, especially on poor surfaces (like the M1).
  • The radio / CD quality is poor, though this is a function of the road noise.
  • I expected Honda dealers to be good - some were shocking.
  • Minor quality issues were much more prolific than expected, with bits falling off or squeaking or grating.

Stuff that was just a bit annoying:

  • No MP3 input.
  • Flimsy door handles.
  • Weak paint.
  • The satnav control and temperature control were identical and easily confused.
  • The starter button is a marketing ploy that's just inefficient in use.
  • No individual reading lights for rear seat passengers.
  • The rear spoiler got in the way occasionally.

Running costs:

CostAmount
New£18,900
PX value£8,000
Deprciation£10,900

Already got it...

New, my favourite engine, proper independent suspension (and with a huge boot), and the toys of the Civic EX, less road noise....

Oh noes!

Heh as long as you don't go doing anything wacky with the forum address, I think we'll be fine.

Oh, and are you sure you are an airline pilot? You look a bit more like an accountant from this post...

I get the feeling, Pottsy, that if the suspension were half decent you'd have forgiven much of the rest.

That, plus the diabolical i-Shift, were what mainly did it for me.

Absolutely. The rest was all fixed by the time I'd finished - and the car was really very good in all areas except the suspension. I would have either kept this one, or bought a new one. But the suspension was as bad as the rest of the car was good.

Jayne will be driving the CRV mostly - I just do my 165 miles a day in the Accord.

Methinks you are trying to distance yourself from Pottsy Junior's drawing!

Now Jayne will need a step ladder to fill up!

Good luck with the new vehicle. I've still got my 06 but with Green Flag cover!

Hints for the VW have fallen on deaf ears!

Reading your list of 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' I am now convinced that we have the same opnion of the Civic.

The only difference is that I had to go for the 1.8 as I like not changing gear myself.

Unless the deal was a corker I also won't be replacing like for like and will be looking for a far better suspension setup next time.

Still intruged in what the replacement is.

And it was my dropping hints to Jayne about a VW... Took her to see the Golf, which she didn't like the look of. In a stroke of genius I thought Scirrocco, but it was too cramped as a family car. And Jayne just kept getting drawn towards the Tiguan, which I didn't like. So a nice compromise was met.

Same as a Civic EX with roof and leather, but it has projector halogens not basic HIDs, card reader and 3.5mm aux in.
