Civic goes bye bye next week
After suffering too much with the constant rattles and general poor build quality, I'm selling my Civic for a two year old 320d m-sport.
I bought the Civic for the styling and also for the Honda reputation for quality. Hate to say this but its my first and last Honda as its been a disappointment - even to the fact that the second lot of parking sensors the stealers have fitted don't work right and beep whenever they feel like it. They can't be that difficult to get to work! The engine is great, if not a disappointingly under-tuned (which is a big niggle for me, if the engine can cope with the power, why not give customers it?!?!). The paint quality is terrible and the finish in the cabin leaves a lot to be desired. However, I still love this car, the styling is something else and if it had been built right, I'd keep it for many years to come. What a shame Honda. I'd like to thank everyone on this site who has given advice or taken their time to supply bits and bobs for mine and other cars....your help has been greatly appreciated in this corner of Northumberland. I'll still pop in fairly regularly and I'll flash anyone with a civinfo sticker! And finally a huge "WELL DONE!" to Pottsy and the Civinfo team for a quality website, was hoping there was a similar one to BMW...but they just can't compete with th ebest website around. Cheers folks and happy driving! |

It's a shame the car didn't live up to expectations but hope that the Beemer does. You have to let us see some photo's of the new motor when you get it, you know?
Of course do stick around and keep giving your 2 pennies worth, won't you? |

That's a shame mate - but as highlighted by another poster, at least the replacement's a good'un.
I know how you feel in regard to the Civic, I have had numerous issues with mine, and almost chopped it in for an earlier version of the same car. I have since tightened up on my stealer, and followed every subsequent visit with a letter to verify the work that is/has being/been carried out. When I have an unacceptable amount of letters built up, I will post copies of them all to Honda UK and ask 'em whether it's acceptable, and to sort me out accrodingly. Told the dealer that this was my plan, and that it was in their best interests to fix-up, because it's not just been a case of warranty work, not completed to a satisfactory level - Their decorum, and general professionalism, is well - lamentable, to say the least. Cars due in shortly - along with another letter, will see whether the first letter has made any difference. Sorry to digress buddy, just understand where you're coming from that's all - happy motoring in the BM. Last edited by TypeRiter; 14th October 2009 at 08:25. |

Thanks for the posts folks. Yeah I'll definitely put some photos up and I'll be popping in more than often.
TypeRiter, you might be surprised with the value of your car, I was offered £7.5k in January in p-ex for a BM, but I've just got £9.2k and I think they would of gone for a bit more if I'd really pushed them (but with not many m-sports floating around I didn't think it was worth the risk of losing it for a couple of hundred quid). Its a shame so many people have had problems with the Civic - it truly could of been an unbelievable car.....if only they'd built the sodding things right! |

Getting the saloon, need to have 4 doors for taking the lads to the football!
I'm excited about getting the beemer but will be very sad to see the Civic go. Weird mix of emotions! |

Talked to my dealer a while ago, and he said the next Civic would have a much better build quality and also a much better choice of materials. I quote: "They know about lots of the problems with this car, and they know they have to do much better." I will drive my Civ to the very end (that should be around 300d km I hope) and then... Hopefully an Accord or a Beamer...

I am perfectly happy with mine, it is a great car with a lot of gadgets included, and everything works the way it was intended to do...I don't find anything wrong with the build quality either, for it's class/price.
I think it is at least as good as (several of) it's competitors. I would rather compromise on the build quality than to be without all the funny (and costy) cadgets that comes with my executive, (EX in the UK) of which you have to pay an arm and a leg for on other (meaning German) car makes. The only thing I can think of that I miss is a lumbar support on the drivers seat. Not a big deal though..I manage quite well without it, but my previous Almera had one. You will find lemons (what we here in Norway use to call Monday morning cars) amongst all the various brands out there, also BMW's, Audi's, Skoda's, Nissan's or whatever they are. Just visit one of their forums and see for yourself! Having said that, I have to add that I'm feeling so sorry for your misfortune, and best of luck with your new car... |

Congratulations a great choice of car! I did look at some Beemers before opting for the Mazda
Your thoughts on the Civic mirror mine in many ways. Nice looker but dire quality. After just a few weeks with the Mazda it clearly shows that they can do what Honda couldn't and no matter what tasty morsels Honda bring out in the future I wont be touching one with a bargepole. |

That is a ridiculous statement!! Exactly what is it Mazda (Ford) does that Honda can't?? (apart from their Wankel motors) Do they make cars, motorcycles, outboards, lawn mowers, power aggregates, etc, etc like Honda does??!!! |

I'm sorry amronno, but Welly is right.
The Mazda 3 has overtaken the Civic IMO. The Mazda is far better built than the Civic. The suspension is a delight, there is no road noise and no rattles. Its packed with nice touches and its a quieter engine (Ctdi 185 was the one I drove )Honda have not got it right with this car and they will have to do better with the next civic. |

Many car manufacturers seem to find more and more clever ways of disguising poor quality knowing full well that by making a door feel heavier or a dash "feel" more solid the public will be fooled into thinking it's well built. In reality, all car manufacturers will make a sheet of metal a millionth of a millimeter thinner or make a bolt a millimeter shorter, or make a bit of trim cheaper, because if they can save 1p per unit, they will, because collectively they will save a fortune. whilst I like the new Mazda 3, I wouldn't say Mazda are any more capable than Honda, infact quite the opposite, in the new Mazda they even seem to have copied the sweeping dash from the civic, and this is the point, Honda led the way with the new generation in design, Ford and the rest are just catching up. I have no doubt the next Civic will restore Honda to it's former glory. |

Like I say, I like the look of the new Mazda 3, apart from the Peugeot style black front bumper. A quick search on the mazda3 forum and you will see it is not without it's faults, here is a review - First impressions 2.2 185bhp here are some topics - Interior trim A quick browse and you see, replacement window seals, squeaky seats, loose gear knobs are some of the issues, sure when it's new on a test drive everything is hunky dory, but get it home... No car is perfect, the Civic, nearly 5 years in production, needs issues addressing without doubt, but will be 2-3 years ahead of the Mazda when it's released. |
