Time to say goodbye

After 3 glorious years of motoring in my 2007 1.8EX Sport I bid her farewell 2 weeks ago. It was time for a change and with the new emmission based tax system in Ireland I considered changing to a 2.2L diesel model but a) I heard that they were going to discontinue the sale of that model in Irealnd, b) The spec level was poor compared to that of the Ex I had, c) The garage I spoke to were giving me 12k for my own and looking for an additional 15k to trade up.

So I started looking around and to cut a long story short I bought a 2009 VW Scirocco 1.4 TSi. She's only 8 months old with 6000 KM on the clock so barely run in and set me back less than 10k as the VW dealer gave me 12k for the civic.

I don't find the scirocco to be down on power even the figures indicate that it is. Have to admit that I feel the VW is a bit better put together, has a more solid feel and handles noticable better through the turns. But I've gone from having a steering wheel with 15 buttons to one with none (unless you count the horn) and I do miss that, dual climate replaced with AC, no GPS, no voice controls (which I rarely used unless trying to impress people by asking the car 'what time is it', to which is often responded, 'medium wave 107.3' and I'd spend 2 mins trying to get my radio station back), no auto wipers, no auto lights, I now have these stupid day running lights which don't go off (I know .. it's by design), oh and the two rear doors which were particularly usefull for my 2 kids under 2!

So I'm off to find a Scirocco forum but will continue to check in here. I expect I'll return to being a Civic owner some day, now that I've convinced the missus that we can manage with my car only having 3 doors ... I'll be looking to the Type R.

Been a pleasure ...

Good luck with the Scirocco. Lovely looking motor. The day time running lights can be turned off when connected to VAG.Com. Ask your dealer or find someone local with a copy.
