Its farewell, not goodbye....

That time has come in my life when I need to downgrade my car for a more economical drive

I have driven a 8th Gen civic for the past 6 years, some may remember my silverish blue Type S (what a beauty that was, loved that car), and for the past 3 years I've enjoyed the Type R.

With a monthly commute to work costing hundred in petrol, and were looking to start a family in the coming month, I've been told (ordered more like) that we cant afford the CTR and a baby (and the idea of selling the baby, keep the CTR didnt go down well either!)

I have had a fantastic time with the CTR, loved ever min driving it! Im never going to forget the Vtec, and the sheer power it delivered daily!

The civinfo community has been fantastic, met some amazing people, and one of the friendliest forums I've been apart of.

So the question on everyone lips is "Whats car have you gone for....."

I take ownership of a Vauxhal Astra GTC SRi 2Lt Diesel. I was so impressed with the drive and power with it being a diesel and 50 MPG. It will have 19" 5 spoke wheels (as in the pic below)

I'm not leaving the site, ill still be around and will be happy to drop off a review of the car once i take ownership in 2 weeks.

Thanks your everything all!

Shame you had to get rid of the CTR, but Honda also has a 5 door derv Civic perfect for the family

God luck with your new ride!

To be completely honest, i think the 9G civic looks like a prius..... not a fan at all.

Plus, i needed a change to see if the grass is greener on the other side

i sold my last civic for an astra sri never had a problem with the astra in the year i owned it good car but looks wise it didn't give me the same feeling hence me getting another civic ,me personally the ctr still looks more attractive than the gtc my opinion, overall though the gtc is a nice car and i hope you enjoy the motor and it proves to be as enjoyable as the civic.

I think the new Astra is a great improvement looks wise over previous models.

We had Astras at work and I always found the driving position to be one of the best around.

Good luck with your new motor.

Enjoy the switch mate. One thing to watch is the ERG value. They can throw up so many problems its unbelieable.

Just one thing to note i have a 40 mile commute to work every day, on cruise control at 60mpg my average in the type r is 43.3. I honestly cant believe how amazing the CTR is on fuel.

I couldn't get the CTR above 30mpg, what's the secret? Ill do some research on the ERG valve, thanks.

Gonna miss people willing to help lol

Yeah I had so much issues with my first car, Vauxhall delivered me a brand new one. (Astra H) that stayed 4 months before i sold it on.

Yeah +40mpg is proving very easy in the CTR, honesly cannot believe it. My focus ST averaged 18mpg on the same route. That was 326bhp at the wheels though lol

Gutted for you mate, my CTR is doing 34 mpg. Whilst the R was being serviced why JT Hughes we looked at a few different cars,
Audi A3 3 door and sports back,
Fabia Vrs and estate vrs
New golf gti

The problem was lack of boot space in all these cars. Civic boot is massive and our stroller fits in perfect with lots of space left in the others we looked at it didn't fit or took the whole boot. I will post pics of what I mean when my car is back

I gave JT Hughes an oppatunity a few weeks ago to track down a M200 for me.... I was prepaired to pay a little extra for something special. Over the course of 2 weeks, there were 3 M200 on the Honda used car site, and Honda didnt event call me to mention these.

This in a way was the final straw, they obviously didnt want my money, and we needed a change.... hence the GTC.

Ill still come to the Cosford meet, will be great to catch up!
