After having a go in my mates chipped Mk5 Golf a few weeks ago, I've finally given in and decided to get Celtic to remap mine. I had a rolling road graph done a few months back, which you can see here :-

Anyone dynoed their Civic 1.8?

Once it's done, I'll get an after graph (when I get chance) on the same rollers, just to see the difference. Also, I have some software that will measure in gear acceleration times via the OBD port, so might be able to get some comparison figures for that too, which will give a much more realistic idea of the actual different the remap makes.

Booked in for Tuesday the 13th... 12 days and counting!

Got the remap done on Tuesday, was hoping to get a dyno plot this weekend, but havn't had time, hopefully will be done next week some time.

First impressions are that it's a useful gain, especially in the midrange from about 2000 rpm upwards. The VSA has a hard time on wet roads in the first 3 gears, so you have to be sensible. I've done about 1000 miles so far, and economy seems to be about the same, maybe a slight improvement when driving very gently, but if you start using the extra performance, it drops like a stone - 33mpg over 150 miles before I decided to be sensible again...

323GT-R, I'm dying to see your dyno results

I'm absolutely convinced about getting the remap when I read your extra oomph and "freude am fahren"-stories ()... but I shy away from it the moment I listen to some (sometimes self-proclaimed) experts on diesel technology.
The only thing that could convince me, and I think quite a lot of others with me, is some figures on indicators like exhaust temperature and stuff. I plan on doing like 10 years and 150.000miles with this car, I can't afford to have it break down after like 75.000 miles or so.

Ninooke, I think that your fears are pretty much unfounded. Turbo Diesel tuning is a tried & tested technology and does not stress the engine unduely (unduly?) Also, for the amount of money spent, it gives the maximum return-on-investment of all the tuning products!

As long as you service the vehicle on a regular basis, you'll be fine. If you source your remap from a reputable tuner, issues like exhaust temperature, charge air temperature, smoke & emissions will already have been taken into account and will not be an issue.

Also, as the miles start to creep up, an interim oil change between each service wouldn't go amiss (but perhaps not necessary).

As for owning the car for 10 years. Do you really think that cars built nowadays are built to last that long? My Civic is less than a year old and it's starting to look dog-eared in places! Also, will you still be able to buy diesel in 10 years time? That's a scary thought! Who knows????

Actually, I do.

We all know how most company cars are driven, yet they all (well, almost) survive the 4 year-120.000km punishment. I suspect car manufacturers target this market more than any other, and make sure they get a well-deserved reputation in the fleet market.

If cars can survive this, I'm quite sure I can make the car last for 10 years.
As long as the oil doesn't reach normal operating temperature (about 15 miles I suppose, too bad we don't have a gauge in our civics), I keep the engine under 2000rpm. Then I floor it

My civic is 15 months old now, 25.000kms and it's still in mint condition (except for a scratch). The engine is going stronger than ever.

Kernow,

Mine was done quite a while ago now and the results have been tip-top. I can heartily recommend Celtic Tuning.

Haven't done a dyno yet (have had more important things to spend money on), results have been really good, faster, loads more torque. Engine still smooth as ever. Economy.... well, I don't drive in a way that lends itself to economy, so I'll pass on that one!

I'd say, remap for a sportier drive, not because you want economy. Otherwise you may be disappointed.

Damian,

Thanks for the reply, it looks like I'll have to get it done for the sportier drive!

Do you know if they are still doing a discount price for members?

They should do, just mention the forum, and the pricing mentioned earlier in the post.

You should be ok, they're good guys, small company & easy to deal with. Also, they know their stuff (which is reassuring!)
