8th Gen Accord Warranty Extension EGR Pipe Crack,Accord iDTEC

Guys,

If you have a 8th gen iDTEC Accord and you find you car is sounding slightly rough or you can smell exhaust fumes then you may have a cracked ERG Pipe.

Honda have issued a TSB SL-02-008-00 dated 01-09-11 stating the following

The Cause
Thermal fatigue can cause a crack at the flexible joint of the EGR pipe which results in abnormal noise and smell from the engine compartment.

The Fix
Modify the shape of the EGR pipe flexible joint.

Please note different chassis code have a separate part numbers

06187-RL0-305 KIT PIPE COMP A for the CU3 (4 Door) : Before Vin
JHMCU3***9C210416

CW3 (Tourer) : Before Vin JHMCW3***9C208084 06187-RL0-306 KIT PIPE COMP A

CU3 (4 Door) : After Vin JHMCU3***9C210417

CW3 (Tourer) : After Vin JHMCW3***9C208085

This warranty is now officialy classed as Extended warranty 3+4 yrs to 7 years or 200,000 km /125,000 miles whichever comes first.

Great info Pepster.

Sad to see that extended warranty issues are rearing their ugly head with the 8th gen diesel Accord already though.

No problem

Well it was inevitable you can’t produce a ultra-reliable Honda these days. Part vendors do throw a spanner in the works for all manufacturers, however in saying that you have to admire and respect Honda for doing extended warranties.

They acknowledge their mistakes and honour their customer with a solution, rather than a lot of European manufacturers who are happy to brush it under the carpet and say it a characteristic of the car..

I guess they have to realistically, with a safety issue like this.
