From Civic's to CR-V

After four Civics (Two 8g's & two 9G's) over the past 10 years, it was time for a change, so we took delivery of our first CR-V yesterday

Click the image to open in full size.

It's a Passion Red SR 1.6 iDTEC 160 4WD. Was thinking of the EX, but budget would not stretch and to be fair, the only things this lacks that the EX has is the glass roof, power driver seat and tailgate and keyless entry, which I can live without.

Only done a few miles but first impressions are good. The biggest noticable difference over the Civic is how quiet it is. Engine is much quieter which I guess in due to significantly more sound insulation. The ride is very refinded and smooth, with very little road noise intruding into the cabin.

The seats are great and nice driving position.

The engine feels powerful and feels very quick to pull away. Does not feel under powered at all.

Still alot to play with and learn, but one thin I have noticed is that because this has an info screen on the speedo, the iMID does much less that the Civics.. i.e no warnings dispayed or navigation directions.

One thing it does not seen to allow me to do is dim the dash lights when the side/headlights are off, whereas in the 9g Civic you can. Plus I can't work out to reduce the navgation voice directions volume... but as I said, not read the manual yet

Welcome to the CRV club and will admit if we had not had a Milano FN2 we would have had Passion Red for the tourer, we looked at the Silver, Passion Red and Polished Metal with the CRV and even though we had the Tourer in Polished Metal we went with this again as it gave a nice two tone effect with the plastic trims but will say we was tempted with Passion Red. Got to say really happy with the car a few snags have been sorted under warranty but nothing major and like yourself we nearly went for the SR again as the spec is great but due to the deal we got we went all the way with the EX.

Snags I have had which I guess you might find on yours for sure is

1. 2 x rear shock access boot panel trims do not match the same shade plastic as the other trims, passenger side was really grey and so was the other models in the showroom and compound but replacement Honda parts are a good match hence why I think yours may be the same.

2. Tracking on steering wheel was about spot on when collected but over 300 miles is at around 1min past twelve now when straight, they went to track this Friday but the tracking gauge packed up after 2 minutes so now booked in next Saturday when gauge has been repaired but Zac did confirm the drivers side wheel was 2 degrees out from what he seen before the gauges failed.

3. imid plastic in front of screen scratched and waiting parts on back order but suspect this will be more down to the fact mine had been in the showroom 3 days before we bought it or bad luck.

Otherwise all good apart from the random boost pressure fault last Sunday but since then done around 150 miles with no problems at all.

I have just done the same, Sold my well loved Type R for a 2016 Honda CRV in Luna Silver... EX spec..... love it, engine is strong, ride is comfortable and really enjoying the heated seats now that the cold mornings have snuck up on us!

Don't forget to update the Honda Connect (if Honda didn't do it already) Gives it a new customisable display will Wallpapers etc... nice upgrade really.

I love the ride... so smooth an quiet compared to the Civic. It's a joy to drive.

Oh yes, updated the Connect and installed a few apps to make a resonable system a great one IMO...

I've installed CamSam and set it to 'pop up' when a camera is near and disappear when past... Tasker doesn't work on these unit's, but I've found another clean Android automation app that does, so now CamSam starts automatically when I start the car (It's not a persistent app and closes after switch off.

Here is a taster, I'll post more info over on the Honda Connect thread.

They look brilliant.
Got to pluck up courage to install the permissions.
Read the XDA forum and it sounds and looks to be going in the right direction. A decent customisable system.

How would you go on at a service and there was a Honda update (eg RC5, RC6) available?
Just wondered if you have any idea.

Mines on RC5 already and all works ok... I think RC6 is coming soon. Unless there's major upgrades, I think I'll leave as it... as you say, with the added apps, it's quite a decent system (Processor could be a bit faster)

Go for it, you cant really mess anything up and you can always do the full reset.

Mines on RC4 at the moment. Need the update to at least RC5 as it fixes Bluetooth issues. If my phone loses signal it then loses Bluetooth with the HU. Been told by Honda that it is a known fault and RC5 fixes this. Might get the RC6 done before altering things but it is definitely the way to go.
Thanks

How do you find out what RC you're currently on and how do you do an update?

Hi
You need to press and hold 'brightness'+'menu'+'power', though this could be different for different units, for a few seconds (all together). You then get two choices. Select the bottom one then on the next screen find 'version' and select that. You now need to note the following .... Main Soft (SH) and Build (Tegra) notation.
If you try
https: // www.dropbox.com /sh / cdu72khw9...I_Y_8y Rwa?dl=0
(remove spaces - 6 of them), it gives you info files on updating.

Little addition to the CR-V....

Cheap but useful little mod.

Good quality plastic and even has rubber antislip mats.

Yes plenty.. so you can still have a USB stick plugged in and something in the power socket.

It's approx 4cm deep

Thanks for update the USB stick was my major query so you have put that to rest! Nice looking car, my brother has just bought the silver SR version and I certainly like the satnav etc. I've toyed with getting the 1.6 fwd but as a caravanner still not sure if it will tow as well as my current 2.2 dtec will let my brother find out first 😄
