New 2.0 Ex. So far...

Got my new 2.0 Ex on the 6th and have to say I love it. I'm still ploughing my way through the manuals, so it will be a while until I fugure out all it can do, and how to do it!

200-some miles on, the ride is incredibly smooth - as are the gearchanges in the auto gearbox (the jazz semi-auto box was going to take some beating in my eyes)

Very briefly, some plus and minus points - imho

plus
colour coded bumpers. I think this was actually a deal decider in getting the Ex tbh. I've always felt that the bumpers were "half finished" previously. I know some people here think differently!

40/20/40 rear seats. This is going to prove very useful I think. I have the 20 part reclined slightly at present, so that the drinks holder/centre arm is perfecly level for holding drinks.

Voice recognition. Wow! Never have I had voice recognition software pick up EVERY word I say (Had a few progs on my pc in previous years that were less than useless!)

Dual level boot Again, some here don't like it but i love it. It will become very useful in the years ahead.

Multi-function display Very comprehensive and tweakable. I like it a lot (simple minds, simple things!!!)

Time delay adjustments Nice touch, being able to close the windows/sunroof with the key out of the ignition. If only they had tied in the folding mirrors too.

Negative

Mirror adjustment button I think I would have prefered it to be on the door handle like the MK2 was. Much more accessible there.

Mirror folding It would have been great to have a button on the remote (or even built into the remote locking) for people who forget to fold the mirrors! I will remember eventually.

Illuminated MF steering wheel Again, in time, I will remember which buttons are for which function but it would have been nice to be able to see them in the long, dark days here in the Frozen North!

Things you really shouldn't admit I thought the auto diming rear view mirror was broken as, when I switched it off, it still seemed to be "dimmed" until my Father-in-law pointed out that the rear windows were tinted. Doh!

So-far-so-bloody-brilliant... Glad I didn't buy the Antara now.

EEK........... Best not go there. I am sure it will get better as the engine eases off. Low to mid 20's......... Only done 255 miles so far - most of it short distances.

Crv

We picked up ours on the 4th Oct.
Ours is the 2.2 auto and we are delighted with it so far.
We did about 500mls in the first week on a short break and the CRV ticked all the boxes for a young family. Looking forward to our next mini break.
Our car came from Town & County Aberdeen as well.

Bought my EX diesel auto new a couple of months ago. Here are my thoughts so far, in no particular order.

Likes
· Ride and handling, better at speed
· Brakes
· Auto box
· Dipping passenger mirror when reversing
· Rear screen wipe when reverse selected if front wipers on
· HID dipped beam (but main beam looks poor in comparison)
· Audio quality especially using iPod
· Sunroof
· Satnav accuracy; often around 5 metres
· Doors close better than any other car I’ve owned (nice solid thump)
· Auto wipers sense rain accurately so wiper interval/speed correct 90% of the time
· Handbrake design and operation
· Open gap between dashboard and console between seats so you can slide between driver and passenger seats (hate the modern trend to fill the gap with extra plastic)

Dislikes
· Folding mirrors not fully auto
· No ‘proper’ clock. Position on screen alters between audio and satnav functions and clock not shown on some screens
· No timer on rear window/mirror demisters
· Satnav could be easier to use
· Voice commands don’t work reliably at speed because of ambient noise
· Cheap leather looks like vinyl
· Antiquated memory card reader for audio system (unbelievable!)
· Intermediate shelf in boot (what’s the point?)
· Location of sunglasses holder
· Space saver tyre (hate them)
· Only 1 rear fog light (how cheap is that?)
· Can’t unset alarm using key in door lock
· Cigarette lighter in front console is non-standard so can’t be used for phone charger
· Interior plastics seem to have been specially chosen to mark easily
· Colour coded bumpers on EX
· 18” wheels (everyone knows that the 17” provide a better ride) so for my winter tyres I've bought a set of 17” Honda wheels to fit in a couple of weeks
· Hope I never have to replace any of the front bulbs. Looks a nightmare.

Complaints
· Climate control display was scratched when I collected the car and still waiting for a replacement part 9 weeks later
· Honda Happiness Helpline is an oxymoron

Fuel consumption
· Covered 630 miles
· One third urban, one third ‘A’ roads, one third motorways
· Averaged 37 mpg so far

Wish it had
· Smart entry and start (once you've had it...)
. DAB radio
· DRLs and LED rear lights
· Heat repellent glass (really miss that when the sun is out)
· Gradient sun-band at top of windscreen (really miss that too)

BTW, Langtang, the steering wheel is illuminated. It's dim but definitely lit.

And lastly here's the inevitable pic.

Agree with the comments, we've a dtec EX, 5 months old. Really like the car, my only con would be the head unit, just find the sat nav clunky to use, audio quality isn't great either. My other gripe is the brakes which I find like the bite I'd like.

Other than that, very pleased. We took the car back to Honda for excessive noise around the mirrors, they've resolved very well (sending a tech down from the factory )and apparently posted a notification about the issue. My experience of Honda customer service had been great.

Very useful indeed if you are carrying a baby buggy in the boot. Can be used to keep the shopping separated and clean from the dirty buggy wheels.
That's what we use it for.
Not for everyone I expect.

Fair point. If I have to put a buggy in the car again something's gone terribly wrong!

I thought it was pointless until we started using it, now I can't understand why every car doesn't have one. Just makes loading the boot much better, you can actually get to things in a fully loaded car.

I agree that the whole audio/satnav system seems unnecessarily complex. Even after 2 months use I still struggle to do even simple things like alter the voice volume. And who needs 5 different route calculation modes? My previous car (a Lexus RX) had a similar touch screen interface but was much more intuitive and easy to use.

I'm disappointed with the AM radio which seems poor and is a real bummer for me as I listen to Radio 5 a lot. High bit-rate audio played from an iPod sounds very good but the lack of DAB radio is annoying.

Honda really need the replacement CR-V asap as the competition is way ahead in its use of technology.

Agreed. That's exactly what I use it for. It's a real benefit.
