Satnav head unit.

Hello, I am new here so I hope this is the right place for this.
I have an 05 CRV, which has/had a built in Satnav (I think its originally made by Alpine). It is (for reasons I wont go into) totally dead!! So I need to replace it, not particularly for the satnav capabilities, but at the very least for having music/radio back in the car.
Can anyone tell me the best option for this? I was wondering about trying something from ebay but wasn't sure if the units are compatible. The other option is to try a Honda dealer to see how much a new one would cost (don't worry I will be sitting down before they tell me). Or is there any other solution to my problem?

I`d look at getting it repaired by Alpine. I know the guys on the Accord forum have done this before and it was a lot cheaper than replacing the unit.

The number for Alpine is 0845 3131642.

The Accord forum is here http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/767-sat-nav-repair/

Thanks for that suggestion. Not sure if Alpine would take very kindly to what I have been up to, because I must point out that the damage was totally down to me.
I was following some instructions on taking the unit apart and cleaning the lens as I was getting the 'DVD not reading error'.
The instruction were very comprehensive full of all the precautions etc. But even then I managed to lose a tiny screw inside the unit but worst of all in my effort to try and retrieve it a ribbon cable came off as did another wired connector.
Lesson learnt... should have left it to the professionals.

I agree, I know that Honda's use Alpine systems for their sound and sat nav system.

The accord sat nav did have problem in the system, lucky for me mine worked perfectly during my ownership.

If I were you I would pull it out and send it to Alpine. The only sticking point would be are you able to take it out yourself?

What ever you decide hope it works out for you.

I have become quite good at removing the unit so no problem there. May have to see how much Alpine would charge. But i'm not sure how long I can survive all the silent rides!!!

Thanks anyway

I bought a recon unit off ebay for £80 and it works fine, there are some bargins to be had but most of this type of unit go for over £100. A missing screw and a misplaced ribbon should not add to much to the Alpine charge. An alternative who I have never used is
