I know it's only a Concept ... but it loooks like how the CR-Z should have from the release date !!
Makes buying a hybrid more 'exciting'

Goodbye Type R, Make way for the CRZ Hybrid 'R'!

So I spat out my tea when I saw the pics of the 2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid 'R' Concept at SEMA 2010.

It's definitely a looker, that's for sure.

Full pics can be seen here : SEMA 2010: 2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid R Concept -- Autoblog

Here's a sneaky pic:

I'd be amazed if it retains that level of styling when it goes into production. Still a hybrid...

A turbocharged hybrid that gives you 200bhp and 175lb/ft......

"HPD will campaign two HPD CR-Z Racers at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race in December. HPD enhancements to both cars include: a turbocharger and upgraded IMA™ hybrid system, resulting in an estimated combined 200 horsepower and 175 lb-ft. of torque; performance clutch; limited-slip differential; ‘circuit-tuned' suspension; upgraded brakes and aerodynamic components."

Sounds promising... will wait and see what hits our streets though, and how far away it is.

It is a lot smaller than the Type R though so not sure I could live with it as a daily car, and I can't afford to run a 'fun' car.

I suspect if it makes it into production the styling will be toned down, but that is one good looking car.

yep! seen it the other day: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20101102/SEMA/101109961

unless I can't buy the R version at the dealers, it's just an advert just as the entire SEMA is. But it would be very nice to finally see another really sporty model from Honda on the road and not just "sporty".

anyway I think that this is also what we can expect in the new CTR - turboed gasoline+IMA.

I Like It !! A lot!! Wonder if it will have made it to production in two years or so - a 'real' sporty hybrid. Just what I want... but not at £30k!!

Well, alot of folks have previously said that the R with a turbo is the way forward, and it looks like it possibly may happen with the CRZ-R. Interesting thought though, will it be enough to compete in the super hot hatch market if it ever makes it into production?

unless the price puts it in super hot hatch territory surely its too small and would be more in clio and fiesta territory?
