Report: Acura TSX will Offer Honda’s First U.S. Diesel

Honda is planning a diesel debut next year for the U.S., blazing a trail with its premium Acura brand.

Honda CEO Takeo Fukui took the occasion of the Detroit Auto Show to announce that his company’s new clean diesel will show up first in an Acura. Sources are now reporting that the Acura in question will be the redesigned TSX.
The TSX will be launched initially with a turbocharged four, possibly the same mill that is offered in the RDX crossover, with the diesel option added for 2009.
The diesel TSX will be equipped with the same 2.2-liter i-DETC engine that will be offered for sale in the European-spec Honda Accord this summer. Honda has also said that it plans to introduce a V-6 diesel sometime around 2010.
