I asked my dealer about the US ipod solution. Apparently they contacted
someone over at the maintenance and was told that it "can't be done". No idea why not though. They just said no. Come on Honda! Give us an iPod connector, please. I know you're listening. (apparently) Mp3 cds are nice but don't really compare to 30 or 60 Gb of music on one player. |

Agreed. This car should have these kinds of things as standards.
I mean, the car looks like it might take off and fly and yet has no connection for mp3 players. |

OK, so I gave in and the dealer did it.
The Connects2 VHOX001 converter (from incarexpress) cost £59 delivered, the loom (for the EX, p/no H08A310H6000) was £78 +VAT and the labour was £54 +VAT. So, it's not an iPod (not my cup of tea, I use an X5 and play lossless FLAC files) but the quality is as good as the CD player, so I'm very happy. I promise to dismantle the car (got a quick look in the dealership) and post a how-to! mp32.jpg mp33.jpg mp34.jpg mp35.jpg mp31.jpg |

No, it's just an AUX input, so the only control available on the steering wheel is the volume. But at least it works like a CD, and the volume is reduced by the satnav and silenced for the phone. I have to flick the little joystick on the X5 right one for "next track".

I have noticed Halfords selling a universal i-Pod connecter, is it really Universal or will you still need the bit from Honda, I think Halfords wanted £91.

The thing from Halfords is unlikely to work. The wire from Honda is the 8 disc changer wire, and the connects2 thing plugs into this and pretends it's an 8 disc changer (but in fact just has an AUX-in port). So when you use it, the Civic radio thinks it's connected to a CD player (and says CDC 01-1). Quite a lot of trickery to be covered by a universal box.

So should I not bother with an iTrip?
This is great news about the iPod fitting, but just for the record, before I go to the expense of hard wiring, could anyone tell me if the Griffen iTrip/road dock things are all that bad? The standard radio reception in my EX is pretty poor and I'm wondering if that will affect the iTrips function?
Many thanks Roger |

1) If you travel from area to area a lot, then finding "clear" frequencies is a bit of a pain. 2) They are still illegal in the UK That said, I have a spare one (non-rotary dial, for current gen ipods) for sale. |

Thanks basegreen,
I think I will go for one of those for now and wait until either Dension or Honda themselves get a dedicated unit out. I have just sent back the generic Dension FM modulator kit because my Honda dealer couldn't fit it to the aerial socket on the radio. Another car radio guy said there's one that wraps a wire around the aerial wire and that would work but I haven't heard back from him yet. I was going to get the newest iTrip I could, probably the one that plugs into the cigar socket and has the docking unit, that way I can easily unplug it and hide it in the glovebox when I have to. It's about £45 but that's still way cheaper than the alternatives at the moment. Is the sound quality good from yours? I had a tape adaptor in my old car and that was good enough for me. It it's as good as that then fine. cheers Roger |

I am in the process of negotiating for a Civic 2.2 ES and one of the things I require is being able to link my iPod to the head unit.
I currently have a 2004 Accord and use a Dension ice>link plus. It has a white 14 pin plug which goes into the 14 pin cd changer socket on the underside of the head unit of the stereo. As part of my negotiations I asked about transferring the ice>link to the Civic. I have just been informed, by the dealer, that that is not a problem, involving taking the dash away, as in previous posts, to expose the CD changer socket. It should then just plug in as designed. The garage want £55 for an hours work to do the job. I am trying to get that as part fo the 'deal' but that is a different story. Obviously I am not in a position to verify that this works as I don't have the car at the moment, but I don't see why it should not as the CD changers are Sony makes and the Dension ice>link is designed to emulate a Sony system. As and when I get my car sorted I will feedback, but not sure when this will be. |
