Many Thanks for your reply 'TTDegs'. I did spend several hours last night reading all of the other iPod threads on the forum after posting mine! Its a disgrace that they can't sort this out!

I think the stearing wheel on the Civic Spaceship also looks like the Robots Head in 'The Flight of the Navigator', what do you think? The whole car is so Science fiction but unfortunatly not Science Fact! I was looking forward to full voice control of my iPod and a nice big full colour track listing on the 7 inch screen!
7 pre-programmed Honda playlists is just not good enough. Even the 3 year old Kenwood "tilt screen" headunit I have in my van, allows full track search of the iPod when used with their dedicated interface fitted.
At home I use a "Onkyo DS-A2" iPod Dock that allows full search facility from the remote and displays the track lists on my 42 inch Plasma TV and it even has a "last track played" memory of its own!
I,m Sorry but a Big Blue Screen with "Auxiliary" in the middle just doesn't float my boat at all !

Before looking at the Civic, I was considering an Audi A4 with all of the toys, but I may now also look into a Lexus, unless Honda or an after market supplier can sort this out.
My money could be on one of these Dension Gateway 300 units if they get the Civic application sorted as it accepts anything as an input!
http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/iP...nk_Gateway_300

Keep up the good work everyone, I have already unticked several items from my purchase list if I do buy a Civic. (Speaker Upgrade, Bass Upgrade, Blue Ambient lighting etc.) I will be following all of the "How Too's" on here and saving pots of money instead. Many Thanks.

very welcome WavyD

As the Civ matures, and more and more owners take to 'playing' I'm sure that a lot of the limitations will be overcome.

As you've seen, we (and I don't count myself as being brave enough to be part of that 'we'!) have already managed to duplicate a lot of the Honda options at a fraction of the cost.

Which doesn't excuse Honda at all - far from it! (although to be fair, they are a) having to make a profit, and b) recoup the design and test costs) - but I'm sure that the day will come when someone is able to design an aftermarket iPod controller properly.

Has anyone fitted the Connects2 kit to an non Satnav Civic yet???

I had a Aux adaptor for my old 2005 Type R, this has the same connector for the headunit as found on my 2007 Type R.

But when my local ice dealer fitted it, it cut out all sound And wouldn't come of Aux mode. So it worked but you then couldn't use FM or CD's.

So I'm still trying to find an alternative.

I believe someone on here has fitted it, but I can't remember who.
I ordered mine today and will be fitting it over the weekend (non-satnav) so I will update then!

Today I placed my order for a 56 plate, 1.8 EX in NHB and it should arrive within the next couple of weeks.

I would like to install my iPod, and so I've just read through the wiki. Quick question...

Is it basically saying that in order to connect the Connects2 box to the back of my HU without the £92 Honda loom, I have to put both the Sat Nav wires and the Connects2 wires together in one of the connecting plugs? Have I read it right?

Cheers,

Morph

OK - as I said...it works!
I have the bluetooth HTF add-on in my car (the Honda non-EX one) and there were minor worries about them not working together, however they work perfectly. I didn't need the loom or anything similar, it just plugged in.
The only notable thing I have to say is that my Honda dealer fitted the HTF before I got the car and the two screws underneath the HU were completely missing!!
It took me a while to work this out and I even almost unscrewed the wrong one, but no...the dealer obviously hadn't put them back!

See the Wiki:
http://www.civinfo.com/wiki/index.ph...sing_connects2

You either need to do some DIY on the cables, or buy an adapter cable from Honda.

You can´t have both CD changer and Connects2, that is the only limitation I know of.

One question, where has every one placed the connects2 box?
Are the cables long enough to place the box inside the slidy-cover-box between the front seats?

ive just fitted this:-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=005

and as it is aux & dock compatible ive now done the video on the satnav screen mod and have sound with my movies.

it charges the ipod as well and you can switch between ipod or aux via the stereo controls. worth that bit extra for the full incar entertainment system.

The connects2 box does work with the EX, it just needs the extra loom (Honda or DIY). My box is in the spaghetti zone below and to the left of the radio.

When i removed the stereo, i already had the FBUS cable from Honda, due to my 8 disc CD changer, however their was another cable plugged into this lead, does anyone know what it is used for?? I was thinging about making a switch to swap between the connects2 box and the CD changer, would this be easy or diffucult??

That other cable is the audio in connection from the navigation unit. On std. EX's (i.e no CD changer) the lead you describe is plugged into the aux-in port of the HU and is linked to the audio out of the navigation unit, hence the need for the FBUS Y cable.

iPod connection

I had a Honda iPod adapter fitted last week. If this is the finished article, then it is certainly not worth the money. (Ł220) ok, you can operate the volume and track advance from the sterring wheel, bu there is no info on the display what is playing. My 2002 Civic which I just traded in had an Alpine head unit dedicated to the iPod. Much much better than this.
Perhaps I just dont know how to access the track information, the guy at the Honda garage certainly doesnt know either though.
Any suggestions?
Ronnie
ps, my wife has a Civic 2.2 sport too, and I will just get a Belkin FM adapter for hers.

ronniestuart, I am afraid that you have found out the expensive way that the Honda adapter is rubbish. You are restricted to 7 playlists and nothing more. No information will appear on the display and the iPod display just shows the Honda logo, if I remember correctly.
Have a search on this site for a number of threads on how poor the Honda system is.

How do you get on with your MP3 player whilst the charger is in? I've got the "buzz" a few others have and on a few devices. Not sure if the loom makes a difference.

I don't have a charger in the car, so doesn't affect me.
