Solution to interior door noise

Has anyone got any good ideas of what I could put in the bottom of the door pockets to stop things from sliding around and making loads of noise? The plastic as you know is very hard and slippery.

I have tried some anti slip matting that I bought off of Ebay but its so flimsy that what ever is in the pocket seems to grab hold of it and scrunch it up out of the way

I'm sure someone on this forum has come up with a good idea they would like to share

I use the same stuff in the central armrest cubby holes etc,Although not really needed any in the door pockets yet.

What about double sided adhesive tape? Bear in mind though, there could be a residue left on the car's plastic should you later remove the matting.

Simple - dont use them

My civic is making enough noises of its own at the moment without the added sound of bits & pieces moving around.

In fact I have to empty my car so often to take the car to the dealership that I dont even put my stuff back in it anymore.

If you go to machine mart or the like they sell a roll of rubber mat which is used to line the bottom of tool boxes. Its pretty good and can be cut into any shape and stuck down with double sided tape - its about .08 mm thick.

try: Machine Mart Power Tools and Machinery: Clarke, Dewalt, Makita, Ryobi, Bosch

That seems like a pretty good idea but I think I may have found a solution.

I've found a company on Ebay that sells self adhesive silicon sheets in various colours and thicknesses. I've ordered a sheet in red (Type R) and will cut some templates for the doors and see how it looks and works.

I'll let you know if it's any good?

Thumbs up Solution Found

Ok after much thought I have made a solution to stop the noise from items left in the door pockets. It took me about an hour but the results are pretty good.

Step 1 - Buy a sheet of self adhesive silicon gel from ebay or something similar. I used silicon gel as its really easy to cut and comes in any colour and thickness. I used 3mm sheet in red (Type R) but in hindsight I should have used 5mm.

Slip Mat 2.JPG

Next I made a template that fitted into the door cavity. Its worth taking your time over this to get it right, but you only need to make one as it is reversible for the other side.

Slip Mat 3.JPG

Once this is made, mark out the shape onto the silicon gel or what ever else you have used.

Slip Mat 4.JPG

Repeat for the other side and then cut out the shapes using a sharp knife and scissors. The silicon gel is really easy to cut.

Slip Mat 5.JPG

Finally clean out the door pocket with an alcohol wipe or something similar. Remove the backing tape from the silicon gel sheet and stick into place.

The silicon grabs anything that you put onto it and stops all of the noise.

I would have posted this into the how to section but for some reason I couldn't I hope that this post has been of some help

That looks awesome and useful. I bought a neat little silicone ipod mat for £2.49 the day i picked my car and it fits perfectly in the ipod cubbyhole and stops it sliding about. That silicone stuff is some job. Might try black for the door poskets though...

Why would you want custom nipples? Suppose you might get cold Knobs in winter?
