I tapped lightly along the top of the windscreen with the pad of my hand, listening for the creak, then all of a sudden, CRACK! A 12" crack from the top of the screen.

Initially Honda Warranty refused to pay for it (typical!), but then Honda Customer Services stumped up the cash.

Coincidentally, I read on the Auto Express Website today (in the used car review section) that because the Civic's thin windscreen forms part of it's structure, it's a potential weak spot in cars that have been driven enthusiastically and should be something that buyers of used Civic's should look out for.

BTW, my new windscreen doesn't creak at all.

My replacement windscreen also seems to have cured some creaks and knocks I used to get which I thought were the dash and a pillar.

There is some news - my dealer had told me there's a fix from Honda for the creaking problem - guess what? - felt

Mine is at the dealers right now for the windscreen creaks (2nd time).
I mentioned this felt fix and the head tech guy sounded interested and looked it up on the system. There was no mention of it.

But because I mentioned the cowl they noticed it was positioned incorrectly and have refitted it.

I wonder if it will have worked...

Now that's again interesting - still, allegedly a few have not even heard of the handbrake issue, perhaps the onset of a "Renault effect" at Honda - they never know of any problems, even if it's the 10th customer that day with the same complaint...
Anyway, after seeing my fix the service guy said he believes it might last longer than the "felt fix" because there's less chance for water/dirt getting between the cowl and the windscreen

Despite the dealer saying thay had made "adjustments", there is no change at all. The creak is there as bad as ever. They say they can't hear it.

I think i'll try the DIY cowl fix next.

It works, and it will only take you half an hour.

I can understand the dealer not being able to hear the creak as it generally only happens over bumpy roads, particularly when driving "enthusiasticaly"

The Type R is probably more prone to it due to the firmer suspension inducing more bodyflex.

The fix has stopped the creaking in my car, even when driving "enthusiasticaly". It has been on the car for @3 weeks and @ 1000 miles now without a single creak.

As DR says in the last post, it is really quick and easy to do, and a lot less hassle than taking the car to the dealers.

The Duck tape I used, and would recommend, is the 1mm thick x 4mm wide stuff. It is sticky on both sides. Halfords link below:
Duck Trim Repair Tape 12mm x 4m from Halfords Price £4.99
.

This is what I used too. It's now been fitted for a few days and the creaking noise from the windscreen has completely gone. Very pleased!!!

Hello guys... I have a 08 2.0 Si Coupe and I have the same problem. I am wondering if any of you guys have had a permanent fix yet from your Honda dealer?

I am afraid my Honda dealer will not be able to fix and that I have to do the DIY method...

Hey buddy,
The problem is at the end of the wind screen, where it meets up with a plastic cover between the windscreen and the hood. This plastic part is making that creak sound as it rubs against the windscreen from the vibrations of the road . I had found a thread with diagram for the DIY. If I manage to find it I'll send it to you. Otherwise have a look through the older threads. I'm adding you to my buddy list so I can find you easier when I find the thread.
