How to make pre-outs

This was done on an Executive. All I did was tap into internal amp's input signals. Tha amp is TDA7386, find a datasheet for detailed info.

Start by removing the headunit from the car.
To get to the pins, first you have to remove the joystick. To do that, remove the small ring from it and also the large one.

Both are held only by tabs, use flat tip screwdrivers and pry them of (not a pretty job). Then remove 4 screws and the connector from behind.
The next step is removing the top cover of the head unit, held by three screws. In fact I removed the headunit from fascia, but I think there is no need to do that, just remove the side metal holders to ease your access to the cover.

Find the pins and solder wires to them.

Pins are as follows:

11 front left
12 rear left
13 S-ground
14 front right
15 rear right

At this point, it is up to you, which wires to use. I used different wires to get out of the housing and then soldered to RCAs (I used an Y-cable, which had two male RCAs and 4 female RCAs and cut it appart).

Use some hot glue to keep wires from moving. Reassemble and you are ready to go.

For more pictures, take a look at: Album

The level of the signal is similar to those from the LOC, so no problem for my Blaupunkt amp. Quality seems to be better, but still lacks bass, I need a subwoofer.

there is an easier way, a speaker output to line level converter, available from maplins.
anybody trying this other than an accomplished electronics engineer is aking for trouble, solder shorts, blown audio amp, exspensive bill from honds to replace headunit, etc etc

You are right, except for the alternator whine introduced by LOC and 2 more stages of signal processing. Been there, done that.

Glad you got it working ^^

However, I think you void some warranty doing this mod.
As for alternator whine, I have 0 with LOC's (I did have in start, but with some fiddling it's completely gone) - you can check in my thread about ICE install.

Hi,

so, it looks like ground (S) is the same for all 4 RCA channels. Right?
Where do you get remote amp on / off signal? I noticed that some people use lighter contact wire. But that makes the amp turn on even if the radio is off.

Thanks!

All channels have common ground.

I used the accessory wire (cig lighter) for remote power. The problem is, since I have an EXE w/ bluetooth, I can't use it after turning off the ignition (all the way).

In fact I am, but a mechanical one. With no mechanical engineering work experience. Just curiosity and some friends for backup.
