How to fit a Type R spoiler on a Type S
Yesterday, I succesfully installed on my own, the original type R rear spoiler to my poor type S!!
So, in this post i present you my way of installing the spoiler and some pics. ( sorry but the car was very dirty and i used my mobilephone to get the photos, so don't search for high quality and super photos!!! ) What I needed (tools, materials etc) : ![]() How the spoiler looks like : ![]() Removal of every bolt and plastic pin that exist : ![]() All bolts (M6 thread) and pins : ![]() Wedge four steels pins in the bolt sockets : ![]() Put freely the spoiler on the plexiglass and see where the wedged pins touch the glass. Put two layers of sponge tape on these regions. Then put the spoiler on, fit it with the glass and when you find the right position press the spoiler on the plexiglass, so that pins leave marks on the tape. These marks are the centers of the holes that you will drill in the next step! : ![]() You can optionally measure the distances between centers and/or other points so that you will obtain absolut symmetry. Drill the four holes ( i drilled first with a 3mm drill, then 7mm, then 12.5mm) : ![]() Drill the two side holes : ![]() Mount the spoiler. I have used four security M6 nuts, four washers, four thick rubber washers and silicone arround and inside the holes. This is how it looks under the plexi : ![]() Result : Perfect fit and symmetry! Mission accomplished!!! ![]() I will post more later! Last edited by FWH : 16th March 2008 at 11:29. |

Alex,
Im just about to attempt this, was considering just glueing it on with sickaflex. however you DIY guide makes it look quite easy. did you use the orginal bolts that came with it? "Wedge four steels pins in the bolt sockets" How long did it take you? |

Well i was very close, but in a country where we pay some of the highest fuel prices in the world its becomes a big issue. Also my previous car was a 200BHP+ Golf GTI pertrol drinker + 9 points. Needed to buy a more sensible car. Never took a test drive in the CTR as i know i would have eneded up buying it..... then believe it or not.... regretting it.
Anyway lets not deviate from the thread |

I used the original bolts in order to mount the spoiler but as far as the marking process is concerned I used four short spikes wedged in the bolt sockets. These spikes were about 15mm long so that they allow the spoiler to contact the plexi, And when applying downforce to leave their marks. (I wanted to leave a mark while I was fitting the spoiler in the desired position) Original bolts are long enough because they must penetrate the plexi and they keep the spoiler higher so that you cannot see where is the right position of it! |

Has anyone had any joy fitting a Type R spoiler from banzai-tuning - ?
Because it doesnt have the bolts like the one above, all you get is a tube of glue and the spoiler and it doesnt sit flush at all I took it to honda to get sprayed up and they wouldnt put it on for me because they didnt want to be held responsible if it fell of down the road! |

Me too, I install the original TypeR rear spoiler yesterday to my TypeS. I used Alexps's way (99% similar). It is easy to DIY if you have a litlle bit of technical knowledge. The fiiting is perfect. And I believe that this is the best way to fit it. Very strong and you can de-assemble it if it needs sometime.. After all (if something goes wrong) the plexi is consumable (just kitting) ..Photos of mine : My Civic Deep Bronze Type-S... |

Measures
Here I present you the measures you have to take if you want to drill the plexi
First of all you have to mark the middle of the plexi to get the symmetry 1. Take some paper tape (yellow or white) and put it over the plexi about the middle (as you see it) (because the plexi is black and you wont be able to see the marks you 've to make) 2. You measure the rear central stop light (total width is 62 cm), and you make a mark with a pen (use some paper tape to see your mark), from the start of the rear light (start of red) to the middle (31 cm) 3. Take a ruler (or something direct) and put it over the mark you make in step 2 and put the other end in the vertical line in the rear window of the car (heated glass) and draw a line with a pen across the mark (in step 2 and the vertical line in the rear window glass) . Now you have the symmetry you want Now follow the drawings below in the photos to see the measures you have to take (photos 3,4 shows the exact measures, as you see the plexi from the up (ground plan)).
