How to install an Origin B2 speed camera detector

Thought anyone who has got one or thinking of buying one may be interested.

I originally had it installed on to the dash top of my Seat Leon but didn't want to clutter the Honda's display area. As the Civic already has an eye level speedo, positioning was a case of somwhere that could be glanced at for speed limit info etc. and that would clearly heard with audible alerts.

This position seemed ideal, the shape of the unit very similar to cigarette lighter surround (I am a non smoker so this was convenient to obscure the socket). As with previous 'How To's', I removed the centre console and took out the ash tray. The power was picked up from the back of the lighter (ignition feed only which is not ideal for this unit I admit) and cables run though a hole made with a small come cutter in the botton of the cubby. This and the fixing holes for the cradle will be hidden by replacing the ashtray when time comes to move the Civic on.

The wiring for GPS aerial and laser detector was run around the centre console, over the passenger footwell and then up the side of the door weather strip to the A pillar.

Laser detector 'sucker' being positioned behind a sticker makes it almost invisible from the front, useful if the changes to the Road Safety Bill occur (of course I will remove this component if this happens!).

GPS wire fits (very) snugly between A pillar trim and dash (make sure hands are clean!).

Overall pleased with the fit, discrete but still effective.

Very neat and unobtrusive.
My only problem would be that I need to power other items from the cigarette lighter socket so it would not be convenient to cover this item over.

do you get a decent GPS signal there?

with my (Snooper) the place mine worked best was stuck to the back of the rear view mirror - which is nice as it's hidden, but even more tucking of wires behind trim panels

I've got 4 cigarette power sockets in my arm rest area (the big one) wouldn't that work for you?
and the standard one works as normal anyway, inside and out.

GPS reception is good although the B2 unit itself is a bit slow at getting initial lock, a trait of this system, hence my preference for a permanent power feed.

what is best place for a gps?
I have a gps module, and placed it the trunk.
thought of placing it under the panoramic window...
but don't have a clue as to which windows have a gps hindering coating

my Snooper GPS isn't so great

best signal I can get is by attaching it to the back of the rear view mirror (though that is fairly handy for hiding wires)

GPS should work through any glass as long as its not UV coated or has heater elements in it (front screen style).

Anywhere on the dash area should work well, the further from the pillars the better. They do block some of the signal. The glass roof should work well, but may have trouble with satellites near the horizin.

I have a GPS sat-nav (Garmin Nuvi) and the reception anywhere in the car is superb. I sometimes have it loose on the passenger seat, and a freind sitting in the back was playing with it and it worked a treat there too.

I have found it ok.

Car is going in tomorrow for a few things:-

There is silver paint coming off on top of the handbrake, that is being looked at.
I have something loose moving around in my boot door, so that will be looked at.
Petrol cap - got to tesco to fill upthe other day, took me 4 or 5 times on the internal release to get it open!
Intermitant cut out on a speaker somewhere too, not sure which one.

All silly things, but getting them all done at once.

I am hoping i get to try a diesel when i get given a car to use.

Hi , I bought a TR-30 lite few days ago...the cigar lighter power lead wire is too short and hence finding itdifficult to hide it .How did you connect it...?... It's otherwise very good...and I would recommend it...

I had trouble too, but i used a cigarette lighter multiplug with a lead extention on it, i then used that to take the plug (with the multi-plug box) and tuck it behind the centre console all the leads then lead to that location with wires nicely tucked away.
