How to install a Pioneer sub woofer

This is a guide how to install a Pioneer TS-WX11A small sub.
Available on Ebay for about 130€
http://shop.ebay.de/?_from=R40&_trks...&_nkw=TS-WX11A

The guide can be used as inspiration for other subs too...

Have fun!

PS. Post me a PM if you need a higher quality pdf.

Not sure I understand you question:
There are 2 ways to drive the sub, Line level (coming from RCA car radio output) Not an option in the Civic.
OR: speaker level input, this is what I used.

Hmmm.....

It is possible to connect the sub to a line level output, most of the time RCA connectors are used, coming from the car radio.

In this case, since the Civic car radio does not have line level output RCA, a speaker level to line level adjustment cable is provided by Pioneer.

Hope it is clear now.

After seeing Stefs how to I thought I would have a go at this Sub install in my CTR

I used the following connections, all were very conveniently located at the point of the green arrow on the diagram / photo.

1 ACCESS TO THE WIRES
All you have to do is lift up the 2 rear seats bases and pull back the carpet near the middle (see photo below).
  • Lift back grey trim carpet - white arrow
  • Remove one pop fastener and Pull back red carpet - white arrow
  • All the cables are in a corrugated sheath (see stefs photos) . I connected at the green arrow as this had the easiest access

2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
New wires from sub are in bold type

2.1 Speaker Twisted Pair Wires
  • Rear Left Speaker + Yellow, Connect Both of the Sub + White/Black wires
  • Rear Left Speaker – Brown, Connect Both of the Sub - Black wires

I did not connect to the right rear speaker wires, and the sub seems to work fine.

2.2 Boot Power Socket +ve Wire
This has a 20 Amp fuse so should be enough for the sub, which has a 10 Amp fuse.
Thick + Yellow wire, Connect Both the Sub thick + Yellow and thin +Blue fused wires

2.3 Earth

Convenient Bolt on car chassis, Connect the Sub Earth - Black wire

I checked the earth and boot power supply with a multi meter just to make sure everything was OK

3 Remote Control Wire
Lots of options for how to route this

Various others have installed this and similar mini subs and there is a lot of photographs / options / discussion in this thread .

Thanks Munro. I followed your instructions and now have a Pioneer sub under my back seat. I ran the control box to the centre console. Good stuff.

might be a silly question but when you unplug the sub to lower the seats, rest of the cars speakers still work as normal?

Just ordered the subwoofer and will be following Stefs guide.

I would not need a Line Out Converter?

You will get everything you need in the box. as stated in the guide the bass signal will come form the rear speaker cabling.
the sub will be powered from the yellow cig cable at the rear seats. and power signal will also hook in the same yellow cable.

Does this setup mean you do not require an RCA cable? or
Has the speaker wire and the RCA cable been cut and attached together. i just wanna check this before i go ahead. If this is right then i presume that the speaker wire connects to the yellow/brown +orange/blue cables under the rear seat. The cut speaker wire is attached to the cut RCA lead. Then the RCA lead plugged into the line in on the amp.. is this right???? Or completly wrong?
