Install Homing Lights

This guide explains how to install homing lights, using a connection between interiour lights and positioning lights.
This results in turning ON / OFF the positioning lights using remote.
The remote goes 50m or more so...
It works great! (in these dark winter days)
For the UK , you could get the parts from Maplin or CPC (I gues)
Otherwise I could help with the parts.
WARNING: You need some electric skills (sorry)

Stef you are a God!

But for the life of me, I have absolutely NO idea what on earth you're on about. I wish I could do that - but there is no way in hell I would even consider doing that. I wouldn't even know where to start!

Can't I just open the door, press the brake pedal twice, switch on the headlights, shut the door, turn on the radio, open the window and pray it works?!?!?

Thanks JP,
Anyhow, I see you got the foot lights, so the wiring is allready available...
Now you need the skills (or have somebody available with skills...).

Thanks for the info Stef, will get the bits together (possibly already lying around in garage) and give it a go.

Stef,
Interesting - might give this a go. Do wonder if there is a legal issue (not expected but you never know)?

Also congratulations on a well put together document - My next How To will be in Adobe format, far easier to compile offline and post (as well as email/print).

I see no legal issue to hominglights, lots of cars have them..
Only legal issue is that you are not alowed to drive using positioning lights only.

One extra tip,
If you have the floorlights, you also can connect to the floorlights controller box conector inside this box. That way no need to cut any wire at all.
For guys from Belgium (or anyone else that want to make the trip) bring me the box, I modify it, install the box. And you got homing lights. Simple as that.
This is how the box look like. If you installed the floorlights you know it is located just under the steering column.

think of them as using your positioning lights as a torch, they light up the way as you stumble up the driveway to your front door, linked to the interior lights that come on when you use the key fob or open/close the door

Indeed Glass Spider, is there a better name?
They also call them coming home lights or follow me home lights...
Another tip;
1- Close the door
2- Press "unlock button"
Then the lights will stay on, after about half a minute, the car closes itself and the lights go off.

Great guide - not too scary a procedure either. Just need to round up the bits really. I think your recommendation for getting the footwell lighting first should be taken seriously, as it makes this mod really easy.

It'd be more of a feat to set them up as they would have been if they were a factory option - with the lights only coming on once the dusk sensor reports that it was getting dark. Audi/VW cars do this. They also turn off when the key is turned to position 2.

Indeed, getting the footwell light makes things easy.
I realy see no downside that the lights also come on during daytime, there is no problem at all for the battery.
An other good thing is to upgrade the front positioning lights (high bright LED's or halogen 5W bulbs).

Stef

Just seen this on the back of your floor lighting thread which I am planning to install on my Accord (no doubt the Wire Harness will be somewhat different).

I have an idea to use your welcome home light circuit but to feed super bright LED's mounted in to the underside of the door mirror. I just need to confirm the waterproof connectoin to the LED in the Mirror with enough space.
