True Speed

Be careful when using GPS to compare speed with a speedo. A speedo (forgetting any error) measures absolute speed over the surface you are travelling on - irrespective of gradient. GPS measure speed over the surface of the earth and does NOT take into account any gradient.

So only compare them when you are on truly level ground

Sorry for the rather techie response!!

Only if you care about a 0.09 mph error! See:

I think that to get an error of the same order of magnitude as the likely speedometer error, you need to be going down (or up) a seriously steep hill - say Rosedale Chimney.

If anyone's worried about exceeding the speed limit there, please let me know when you plan to try. I'd love to come and spectate, but it would be a bit of a waste of a Civic.

I think Pottsy just sits in his car and presses buttons randomly, holding down combinations and the likes until something strange happens...

There are so many hidden menus on that thing it's best to stay well clear. On the Civ though, my research is a little bit more scientific...

Yes, simply use the car speedo and subtract the error.

If you want true speed and cameras on the EX then you are talking the TalexLite as an additional accessory.

They are for the software developer to inspect properties, make temporary changes and examine errors, so he can go back to the firmware, make changes and re-apply. So no use to us, I'm afraid.

It would have been a bonus if Honda had applied a similar utility to the outside temperature gauge where you could set the car main speedo +/- so that we could get it accurate.

As someone has said here before, I was also alongside a C4 recently where my Talex was reading the true speed, I was reading 5mph higher but the C4 was spot on.

1. Start the car.
2. Go into the diagnostic menu.
3. Go into GPS Information.
4. Press the MENU button for about 5 seconds.

A new screen showing detailed GPS info will be displayed. At the top is the true GPS speed, shown to an accuracy of 0.1 mph.

On my car, at 70mph on the main speedo (held with the cruise control) the GPS speed is 65.7 mph.

I found out something else i went into diagnostics menu i highlighted the gps infomation on the menu then i held the menu button for 5 seconds and a new menu system came up and up the top it said for developers only i didnt touch anything but i just wondered if anyone else has discovered this
