Hi are there any tech heads out there that know exactly how many miles per hour per thousand revs the 1.8 petrol Civic ES does in sixth gear. Once you know this you can check your speedo wirh the rev counter for the 70 mph limit.

2950 rpm for the 1.8 and 2050 rpm for the 2.2, I think.

As someone has said here before, I was also alongside a C4 recently where my Talex was reading the true speed, I was reading 5mph higher but the C4 was spot on.
When I used my TomTom in my C4 I found them to be almost the same. Drove me nuts to see people drove around at 23-24mph. Zzzzzzzzz.

I'll check my SatNav true speed tonight.

Phil.

I think (could be wrong) but the Civic uses a speed sensor on the transmission. This is prone to reading inaccurately, and generally the higher the speed the greater the error. My own car seems to match the GPS speed exactly (so long as the GPS is behaving itself) but then I think it's using the four sensors on the wheels from the ESP system to get the speed.

I'd get that GPS looked at, everyone else has a 5mph error

Except Pottsy who has 'interfered' with it.

Why is your Civic different, why is taking speed readings from a different place to eveyone else's? How do you know?

I don't think he is driving a Civic. His avatar gives the impression he's driving a Ford ('ST').
