I have purchased the Infinity 6510CS speakers and Astra adapter rings on ebay. I have read this thread and have no problems with the installation. My only concern is the sound deadening material. I have also purchased enough to do both front doors. Can somebody let me know exactly where I put it. Does it go on the door outer skin or the inner skin around where the speaker is mounted. Unfortunately I have no instructions.

It goes on the inside of the outer door skin behind where the speaker goes to reduce vibration in the door panel put it in place then heat it gently with a hair dryer and carefully roll it with a small wallpaper roller to make sure it is properly adhered to the door without any air bubbles. Hope this helps

Thanks Bert appreciate your quick response. Hopefully the speakers and deadeing material will be here by Sat. so I can get stuck into to fitting the speakers. For info total cost of project is
Seakers £49 postage £6.50 [ebay] Adapter ring £9 postage £2 [ebay] Sound deadening 12sq ft(enough for 2 doors) £16 postage £8 [ebay] 4m speaker cable £7 [Halfords] Total less than £100. Just got to be worth doing |

I applied sound deadening to the inside of the outer door skin (you have to cut through & retape the moisture barrier to do this properly, using duck or gaffer tape), to the inner door skin that the speaker is mounted to, and to the inside of the door card. It takes a while but is a very easy job. If you have enough material to do this, not only will you benefit from better sound quality (and less sound leakage outside of the car), but road noise is much less, trim rattles are non-existant and the doors have ma much more solid "thud" when you close them. Also, the door handles (which always felt like they had a very lightweight, unconvincing, crappy action to me) feel much more solid when you open your doors. When applying sound deadening to the outer skin, just make sure that you leave the occasional channel to allow the ingress of water from the windows to travel to the bottom of the door, so that it can drain properly. Also, don't worry about interfering with the travel of the window, it stands well clear of the outer skin. Final piece of advice, start early in the day, take your time and be firm but careful when you remove the inner door trims. Replacement trim clips are a crazy price from Honda, so you'll want to avoid breaking them. You'll also want to avoid breaking the plastics of the door trim too. Being realistic, you'll probably break a few clips and a few of the clip points on the door trim, just try and keep the number of breakages to a minimum! Good luck & have fun. |

what are
speaker rings for fitting your after market speakers on to the door so that they fit properly without fouling the window. sound deadening for increased sound proofing, less sound leakage and panel resonance .and the wire to wire up the new speakers

Speaker Upgrade
Just finished fitting my speaker rellacement (front) followed guidance as per this thread (folks if you read it from the start its all here). I had no problems and the most difficult part of the job was getting the door panels off. I have no electrical skills and it took me about 3 hours having already wired up the speakers ready to be attached to the cross over.
The only problem I had was I acidentally pulled the drivers door release from the connector on the drivers door and didn't realise until the door was fitted up ! Sound improvement dramatic, considering this cost me 100Honda could install the same standard for a fraction of that. If you have not done this upgrade do it now |

Found everything on ebay. See previous post also quoted prices paid.
My local Halfords had the Astra rings for £12,Infinity 6510cs speakers on offer for £69.99 and the sound deadening was £19.99 for 4 sq ft. So ebay works out considerably cheaper |

I also just finished the upgrade. First didn´t connect the tweeter to the -3dB (tried it, but didn't gave sound from tweeters, that was because I tried to connect the - wire to the -3dB, instead of the +).
After reading the manual, reconnected the wires of the tweeter... Only forgot to connect the connector of the window at the passenger side, when putting the door back together.. So have to get the panel off again.. |

Hi all,
How do you remove the panel that has the tweeter in it? Does it just pull off or do I have to remove the main panel first? How many people people have found the door panel doesn't fit properly after doing this upgrade? Still a bit confused as to exactly what to do and what things I need. It would be nice if somebody who's really bored could make a proper HOWTO that has all the information all in one post. I bought all the stuff a few weeks ago, but I'm not very confident about taking the car apart. I'm a bit worried that it'll all go horribly wrong or I'll end up with a horrible rattle or something when it doesn't go back together quite how it was before! Thanks... |

Hi NickG
Everything you need is on this thread, yes it does take a little reading through but at the end you will understand all the issues. You will have to skip past the numerous repeat how to questions! Apologies for sounding slightly grumpy but all you need to do is take 30 min and read through the whole post. If you find a specific question unanswered at the end I am sure you will get plenty of support |
