and a drive littered with bits of broken plastic!........the tweater mouldings have three plastic hooks and a spring metal device - this bit pulls out, but the plastic hooks are a liitle weedy and need careful manipulation to disengage. My advice woul be to start by lowering the windoe and genlty easing the edge of the trin which is by the window channel away fom the channel until th eplastic hook is clear of the metal alowing you to ease it towards you at right angles to the door. The metal clip is on the front slope of the trim and should pop away with out too much prising force.
Once the top of the trim is clear lift it up to release the plastic hooks on the bottom edge clear of the door. I found also that prising the oor trim clips was quite hard - start in the middle lower edge of the panle and work along the bottom edge in both directions from the middle - then up the sides at that wil give you more leverage. I bought a trim removal tool (£10) from a local parts supplier (like camberley auto factors. This hels to release the plastic rivets from the door without breaking them or the moulding on the door trim that they fit in. You need another pair of hands to hold the trim while you disengage the fastners that hold the loking and door opening mechanism as well as unplugging the wiring harness - otherwise it is easy to break the fittings ( I did and spent two hours making a repair)! One of the plastic rivets is a different colour form the others - make a not of where it locates.I tooka picture of the door panel when removed so i could refer back in case of difficulty. |

As previously mentioned take your time and read all the posts. I copied and pasted all the relevant info onto a word document. Part numbers, +ive and -tive speaker cable colours, etc. Spent time looking at all the photos. Gives you a good feel for the work required. See my post on previous page,I have made a list of prices paid and suppliers. There is also a good thread some where about sound deadening from a guy in Estonia.

Fitted my Infinities last Tuesday - no major problems at all, just followed the instructions posted.... piece of cake to do and no rattles afterwards
I was disappointed with the sound quality after the install and could not hear any real improvement, HOWEVER, I had a nice long run up to Scotland from my home in Essex - I could not believe the improvement in sound quality by my arrival 6 hours later. The speakers have settled in nicely and the base and depth makes a huge difference (even the wife made comment!) If your worried about doing the upgrade my advice is go for it, you'll be glad you did. You will have to wait for them to bed in and open up - its worth the wait. |

Just had them installed today. 6510cs's in the front and 6512i's in the rear. No problems with the installation, as I didn't have to do it myself.
Improvement? Well, yes and no. Mostly yes! The upper register is much brighter and clearer now, I can hear stuff in the music I didn't know was there (such as mp3 packing artifacts, meh). The bass goes really deep down, but it's quieter than in the previous speakers, especially in the mid-low range. Maybe I shoulda used "subtler" instead of "quieter" there though. Overall, the speakers seem to require more power than the factory ones, I have to keep the volume at a higher level than previously. The trebles and mid high are actually a tad too loud for my tastes, giving the speakers a slightly 'tinny' quality, but I adjusted the EQ. I boosted the bass a bit, reduced the treble slightly, and used the fader to give a tad more power to the rear speakers. With this kind of setting the sound "floats" in the middle of the car, so to speak, and feels quite transparent. When driving at 100km/h, I noticed how clear the sound really is. It clearly cuts through the background noise (whereas with the factory speakers the music tended to drown in the noise). Nice! I still find the sound kind of tinny, but it's only because I'm comparing the sound with the old speakers which I had gotten used to. I'll probably get used to this new sound much faster. Final verdict: don't expect a miracle, but it's clearly an improvement. Last edited by Skaven252; 8th May 2007 at 17:31. |
