I'd be more likely to do it for free I think - or at least show you how to do it.

Pottsy, nice upgrade and thanks for the pics.

I have a set of Infinity Components that I bought 6 months back waiting to go into the Civic, my thoughts on the Civic are to stick the components at the front, if the standard headunit does not have a preout for the sub, then I will use the rear speaker output for the sub in the back. My mum is usually a rear seat passenger and she asks for the sound to be turned down anyway, so Im just going to disable the rear speakers!!!!!

Pottsy, I've ordered a pair of the Infinity speakers but they were sold out of the SAK2902 adaptor Rings. I can't seem to source the Autolead part anywhere in the ROI. Can you suggest an alternative? One of the stores suggested using a generic 16.5 kit.....do you see a problem with this? Is it a case of try it and see?
That was some fancy speaker cable use used in the install. Do you still have the standard cable running from the crossover box back to the head unit? Is it still worth getting good cable to run the "last mile" of the new speakers?

I was also interested whether the standard Honda setup uses a Cross over box, or just a simple capacitor (?) type arrangement, which series links from the woofer up to the tweeter.

In reverse order -

Pics of the finished items - looks no different to standard!
There's no crossover on the std items, wired in parallel with a cap on the tweeter (yuk!).
Fancy speaker cable - have a reel in the garage.
Generic ring should do - so long as it's a fairly thick one. Try Halfords for the Astra one...

Thx for the guide guys, I have now changes my front speakers for the INFINITY-REFERENCE-6510cs, sound is much better than the poor quality standards but still lacking in the bass department. So my next project is to rig up my 12'' Rockford fosgate Sub and Pioneer amp I still have from my old car then we should be rockin.

Deemon - does the amp have a speaker-level input? Or are you going to use a LOC? Where are you going to put the amp?

Just wondering. We could run all the cables to the rear and mount the gear where the spare wheel should be, and then run the wires forwards again - are you going for anything like that?

My amp only has RCA inputs but I have a LOC so the plan is to run cables from the back speakers through the LOC to the amp. I will mount the amp and sub in the boot but I have got a spare wheel (seamed like a good idea at the time) so not sure if I can get the amp next to it For the remote cable I am going to connect it to the fag lighter in the boot (If I can get to the back of it) and that will act as my on / off switch as it only has power when the ignition is on.......and with amp Power cable running from the battery it should be job done....

Deemon, thanks. I really want to do a stealth install - so a high quality LOC (Audiocontrol?) to a 4 channel amp (with x-over) in the boot and subs in the doors. Whilst this will be most invisible, the SQ from door subs will be a bit poor I think.

Could you get the camera out when the car's apart?

Yea, no problem pottsy, I will take some photos n post them up.
I like your idea of putting the subs in the doors, but do u think there will be enough room? I have not had a look at the back doors yet but going by the fronts there’s not a lot of space to play with. U might have to use vsmall subs so yea the SQ might be poor.

I got used to a big sub in my old Civic where I had a rather nice ICE system, thought I could live without it in the new car but the lack of bass just annoys me every time a good song comes on It always surprises me how little attention is paid to sound quality when these cars are being designed, suppose its all down to money at the end of the day.

could anybody do a definitive step-by-step guide? From what speakers/adapters to get to where you put them, how you mount them, which wires go where, etc?
Or would this be too much effort?

I bought today Focal's 165 Slims, 2x with tweeter and 2x without(to back) ( http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/2779.html ) Gonna Install them on next weekend, so I'll try to create one by one instructions for you. But in my opinion with these pics allready posted, that is realy easy to fit speakers by you own.

Next I'll get monacors caraudio 10" sub and 2x SPL Dynamics Amps, one to sub and one to all head speakers. I will create nice looking glass fiber box with plexi class and lights to spare wheel "box". So I'll post pics when ready.

What would I get if I fitted the infinity's with the rings and completely used the existing wiring? No crossovers nothing?

Would there be much advantage in this or would I just blow the speakers?

Also as I haven't got tweeters how easy would it be to wire these, would the wires go straight in to the back of the stereo?

gav,

You have to use the x-over, but it is so very, very simple. With no tweeters as std, you will be able to mount the infinity tweeters using the supplied mounts.

You remove the wires from the existing speaker and attach them to the x-over. You now wire the woofer to some connections on the x-over, and likewise you wire the tweeter to the x-over.

You can see this here (note the tweeter wires going from the x-over, through the speaker hole, and upwards to the tweeter:

That's so much appreciated; I'm going to go for it....although I am more than just a little scared!

The red and black wires going in to the crossover; they're the standard wires then?

Finally...The "silver" wire; would I need to supply this myself or do they come with the speakers? Exactly what wire is it I need? Do they clip to the speakers or do I have to solder?

The red and black wires are ones I've made to go from the wires that came off the original speaker to go to the x-over. I used wires I found in the speaker ring kit. The silver wires are indeed speaker wires you will need to buy (I found a reel at the back of my garage). Any half OK speaker wire will do. And yes, you will need to solder - to tin the speaker wires and to attach the wires to the back of the new woofer (you can use crimp connectors, but I thought they'd get too close to the door metal).

If it is too scary, pay an autoelectrician!

Unfortunately I can't afford an autoelectrician and I'm not sure I'd trust them with my car!

I've already replaced my rear wheel trim and managed to mount 4 cigarette sockets in the glove box area so I should be able to do it; I just don't know much about speakers!
