I've got the 1.4 SE which comes without tweeters...

I've got the speakers ordered to pick up Saturday (and the adaptor pod) and I've got the tweeter trims (it got complicated because I had to order spare parts from a 1.8 EX instead of mine) i'm picking up tomorrow; £23.50 inc VAT for both.

I'm going to remove the door panel today though to ease my mind at rest a bit as to where the hell I actually drill!

Sorry for double posting.

I would like to confirm that you CAN get the tweeter trims for the 1.4 SE for £10+VAT each.
But, if the dealer searches for 1.4 trims they'll only get the "Tweeter kit" at £91; you have to ask them to get the trims off the 1.8EX or similar and they'll fit the 1.4 SE!

Hi. That must have been my picture. I upgraded the front speakers to Infinity Reference 6510cs speakers. They come with separate tweeters and a whole load of different attachments for them. The picture posted shows the attachments I went for. They're actually directional aswell so you can angle them for best effect. I posted a picture of the page on the manual that comes with the speaker that shows how to fit them. I got the silver trim for the front speakers too from Honda (outrageously expensive for what they are). Looks good and sounds far better than the speakers that come with the civic. If you take the door trim off and look at the speakers that are there you'll be shocked at how bad they are. Amazing how they manage to sound ok really.

If you have the 1.4 SE and get the 6510cs speakers then you can do the upgrade with the silver speakers; how do I know? Because I've just done it!
Will get some photos of the finished job soon, but it looks identical to Raegtens. It's amazing when you hold one of the civic speakers in one hand and a third party in the other, the civic ones are literally 1/10th of the weight!!

Out of interest Raegten, was the manual correct about inserting a screw to hold the tweeters in place or did you need to use a washer and nut?

As far as I remember it was a bolt and nut that came with the kit....as far as I remember.
Glad to hear you're sorted. Any problems?
Look forward to seeing the pictures when you have them.

The biggest problem was the rain! It started pouring it down just as we was getting the drill to the 2nd door; the main thing is that unfortunately meant my "step by step" guide has gone to hell because it was too difficult to take photos of us screwing door panels in whilst in the car with the doors shut!

Also because of the rain we couldn't get the soldering iron out; so currently the tweeters are wired in with 2 electrical blocks each; although I definitely think that clips are the way forwards for that.

Finally the only issue that I might have is that I'm not 100% sure I have the polarity correct and I'm also not sure of the best way of checking.

Verdict - Well I'm not sure it's as quite as bassy as I'd hoped; but the sound is really good and a lot better than the original civic speakers. And the job, well people were right and it really wasn't that difficult in the end.

Glad to hear it went well!

You'll never get good bass out of door mounted speakers - a leaky door is just no good at being a sealed speaker cabinet. Hence the need for a sub - the only question is which one

if anyone is considering buying some infinity 6510cs speakers, there is a guy selling new ones on Ebay for £71 inc p&p.
See here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INFINITY-6510c...QQcmdZViewItem

Just bought some myself - there are still 90 plus sets available. By the way it is not me selling them

This has been a very interesting and helpful thread. I'm going to cancel the Bass Works from my order, and try to find a way to have those Infinity speakers installed instead. Perhaps there's some shop here willing and able to sell and install them for me.

Just checking one thing: do these speakers work well with the default factory installed car radio / amp in the Civic? I somehow got the impression Pottsy had had the radio and amp replaced with something else? (in the How To area there was a thread about it)

I'd imagine that what you are thinking of is Pottsy added an "Ipod" connector to his head unit so he can listen to his MP3 player whilst in his car; something the rest of us are unfortunately lacking (apart from in FM/itrip form)

Found one! Over here in Espoo, there's a shop called Tip Top Auto Oy, a spitting distance away from VEHO. I phoned them, and they said they can order the Infinity speakers and install them to my car when it arrives.

Elsewhere in Finland, you may find what you're looking for in this webpage:

In Helsinki, the HiFi-Studio 17 guy recommended a shop called "Stereo Stereo". Its contact information is also in the webpage I linked above.

Have fitted the Infinty speakers in the front, excellent upgrade and easy enough job to do. The problem is the rear speakers need replacing now. Have had a quick look there the same as front. Does anybody know if the Infinty kappa range will fit?
