Does anyone know what model speakers are used to replace the rear speakers???[/quote]
The back speakers are co-axial and not components, therefore, I was thinking of something like the INFINITY REFERENCE 6012i. These should match the quality and sound of the front 6510cs component speakers. They are also on ebay for approx £40 - wow!!! These should be much easier than the front to install as there is no crossover or separate tweeters to fit. I would be interested if anyone else has considered speakers in the back and have found anything different??? |

Same here. Anyone got any ideas? Something to compliment the Infinity 6510's would be great. I got a quote today from a local car audio shop to fit the 6510 components on the front doors (inc tweeters). They reckon they should allow 1.5 hours per door at their going rate of £45 +vat. That works out at a cool £158.63 labour plus the cost of the speakers and delivery on e-bay of £60 making an extortionate £218.63.......and that's without the rear speakers being changed! All of a sudden the Honda upgrade of £350 for all four speakers sounds appealing. Anyone know what make speakers they install? only kidding. I doubt if there as good as Infinity's. |

OK you've talked me into it. I have one question - when you mount the Astra rings, do you need to drill the doors and use self tapping screws?
Thanks Andy |

I also found that the door trim didn't fit exactly in the corner by the speaker, I assume the spacer rings are slightly too deep. This did not affect the fitting of the trim and has not caused any problems. - Good Luck |

Finally got round to fitting them yesterday. Seemed fairly straightforward, probably took around 3 hours in all. Not had the chance to give them a proper workout yet, but they sound a lot cleaner than the (apallingly flimsy) standard ones.
Thanks to all who went before me on this one - made the job a whole lot easier! |

Done the deed
Collected the car 2 weeks ago and within a couple of hours (and Pottsy's guidence) i had the doors panels off and installed 6510cs in the front and 6012i in the rear. This made a great improvement to the sound quality. The front tweeters are a doddle there is a thread on the site and i followed the instructions, basically once you have the tweeters in your hand it is simple to work out how they are fixed, there is a very small amount of filing to do then the retianing nut holds everything in place(no glueing required) this way you can have the silver metal soround matching the other trim.
The car so far is excellent, previously reported problems all seem to be ironed out, HFT working fine, radio reception great everything as it should be. I-shift is amazing and to be honest i could not go back to manual or standard automatic. Good luck with the mods! Ian. |

At some point I'll want to put the original tweeters back in so I don't want to file anything off. A little dab of medium strength glue is what I'm after. I think. I've not even looked at installing them as the speakers haven't arrived yet.

Cheers. For someone who used to rip the insides of a Tornado F3 to bits and put it back together I'm making a big fuss over nothing I think!
I can't wait to get the speakers changed. I've always been a fan of good component set ups since I put some in my Mk1 MR2. Can't wait. |

Just to back up what bigian says, you need to take off around 1mm from just a small bit of the circle inside (maybe 1/6 of the circumference), then you can catch the thread of the infinity tweeter mounts and screw em in. The old assembly will go back in easily as its a clip in attachment and the bit you take off is nowhere near the clips. They look really good with the little silver ring.

The fronts will always be short of bass, purely because of the fact that they're mounted in a door, and a door is a terrible enclosure. You could spend a lot of money and time trying to make the door better, but miles easier to just fit a small sub, bit like this:
Weak Bass now sorted! Also, pics of the back of the radio |
