Right next person to do this can they attach the astra rings and tell me the depth from the glass to the top of the ring please
I am really tempted by the Alpine Type-X speakers as already used Type-Rs but they have a mounting depth of 70.8mm which is alot and dont know if they will fit. The infinity 6510 are 61mm. Do people think there was another 1cm between the speaker's magnet and the window or am I gona have to stick with the shallower Type-Rs? (Will be amp driven when I decide on best way of connecting amps to OEM HU) |

I trimmed some of the plastic from the rear of the speaker hole on door card in order for the Infinity's to fit properly.
Was this a stupid thing to do? I'm just a little concerned that some of the pressure from the bass speaker will be lost behind the door card. Answers on a postcard please... And form an orderly queue to call me stupid. |

I can't/won't do any of this tinkering with speakers etc, so my car is going into Halfords next week to get the Infinity 6510cs speakers fitted. They cost £99.99 with £25 fitting. I know its more than what you could pay on the net, but I really want a better sound in the car and this is the only way I can get it done properly.
Unless anyone fancies a jaunt up north to fit them for the cost of a cuppa coffee and a jamie dodger.....could possiblt stretch to a wagon wheel mind. |

I still haven't fitted my speakers - partly because I didn't want to enhance the qulaity of the interference my radio suffers from and lack of time. With your set up how did you 'trim' the plastic? and how is the sound now? |

Digisine,
I trimmed the plastic trim with a craft knife, it's only about 1mm thick and is nice soft plastic. The sound is fine, I just wondered if it could be better. I'm thinking of making up a foam flange from some speaker tape that I've got, and fitting it around the speakers, helping make a snug fit with the door panel. I don't want to put anybody off doing their speakers, it's a great mod. I could well be going over the top! However, it's definitely worth investing in some noise deadening material before you start, and installing whilst the door panels are off. The fewer times you have to take the panels off, the better! The job only adds 20 minutes work to each door too! |

I've got an ES version - does anything need to be done to the head unit or will the speakers be good enough as they are?

Ok, but what does it look like when installed
Hi Infinity lovers, does anyone of you have pictures of the interior after the Ref 6510cs have been installed? Do you still use the original grill for the woofers and the tweeters?
TIA |

front speakers
I fitted some new front speakers about 2 weeks ago. in my last car i had alpine type R components and ,dare i say it the jvc speakers i have now fitted appear to sound better with clearer sound and a better high end reproduction than the alpines unfortunately i have no idea how these compare with the infinity speakers as you can only compare a speaker when they are actually fitted in their environment ie enclosed like in a car not in a display stand in a shop
the model i fitted were jvc cs fs6 on special at car audio direct at the moment for £75 |

Was meant to get mine fitted today but becuase its only a small Halfords they don't have a garage to do work, so they rely on it not raining to do work. Unfortunately it was too wet today, so fingers crossed it'll get in one day next week.

Hi
Can anyone help, I've purchased a set of Infinity speakers and having read all the great info in here (esp Pottsy) I reckon it should be within my capabilities. However before I buy a set of adaptor rings and start drilling holes can anyone advise if it would be possible to use the brackets that the standard speakers are fitted too. I do not mind if it damages the speakers as I do not intend on re-fitting them. Thanks |

No, the standard speakers are very shallow and clip into the door, and they have their own built in collar. The Infinities are much much deeper, and have no collar, so the adapter rings are needed.
Don't worry about drilling holes, do as many as you like - no one can see them! |

Replacement Speakers
Hi
Thanks for that Pottsy, saves messing about on the day then eventually having to go and source the rings, so its off to halfords tomorrow. Another question there appears from the posts to be some issue about the door panel fitting properly after installing using the astra rings with some people cutting away plastic (I take it inside the speaker panel) is it that tight ? Will be fitting this weekend provided I can get a set of rings, I'll keep everyone updated, if I can do it anyone can |
