[HOW TO] Activate automatic door locks at 10mph ('06 models only) - Page 3

I have had it set for a month and it still makes me jump when I get to 10mph

Thanks cfcnick, nice to know that I did the right thing when I set the automatic locks. I hope I never need rescuing but glad to know there are lovely firemen/women out there if I need them......

.............was rescued by firemen once but that was from a lift that got stuck between floors.........

Finally I've enabled the auto lock. Just need to remember to unlock the doors before trying to escape!

The Fire Brigade aren't always the first on the scene.

However, I have seen someone smash a car window with his bare fist - unfortunately he was nicking some ones handbag!!!!!! Gave chase on my motorbike but lost him - when I went back and found the owner her reply was......

"....oh no, not again"

Blimey, he sounds like a tough cookie. I guess if a crash wasn't too bad the driver/passengers could just unlock from the inside. If the crash is bad (perish the thought) the door probably won't open locked or unlocked.

You can also enable auto unlock!

This worked on our July 06 car - many thanks, my wife in particular is pleased, as she usually has the kids in the back and was always locking the doors manually.

My first post... Read this thread with interest as i take delivery of my Civic SE in 10 days. I'm hoping my car wont have been downgraded

About three years ago i witnessed two hoodies do a smash and grab on a womans car behind me at the lights (start of M602 sliproad), I say smash and grab, they just open her passenger door and grabbed her bag. It was rush hour and loads of traffic, all happened so fast, they jumped down into the underpass and scurried away like rats into the night before anyone had even had time to get out of their cars. Incredibly there was a patrol car less than 20 meters away on the hard shoulder who didn't even see it!

My wife has a Mercedes A-Class which auto locks after 10mph, its very reasuring especially when travelling with kid in the back. I wonder why Honda are deleting this feature?

Doors are designed to be capable of being opened in a crash (I think upto 30mph). The front door rear lip is designed to go outside of the rear door lip to ensure the door doesnt snag at this point. The front door edge is best if it is slightly proud of the rear door edge.

You should be able to open the door of your car after a head on crash into a stationary object (10 tonne concrete block steel plate face at 30mph - theres a lot of energy!!!) Not all vehicles do this but its not hard to see why its a desireable asset. How many of you cary a 6ft pry bar in your boot because that is what it would need?

Locking your doors is good practice. I dont believe vehicle fires are that common especially in Diesels ......

Do ensure you store all your valuables or anything that can be thought to be valuable out of sight when driving. Many years ago I came across an incident with a very distressed lady sitting in her car with every window smashed - even the front and rear screen. Whether this was an opportune robbery or planned I know not - but standard glass is no protection.

Just checked - on the Civic the rear door front flange is a full return so there isnt any chance of it snagging - another plus point towards the safety rating

So if I activate this feature and drop the wife off somewhere without stopping the engine, does the passenger door unlock when she uses the handle, or do I have to use the "unlock" button to let her out?

She can release the door lock by pulling back on the small latch, then open the door. It will relock when you drive away.
