Welcome martois, I don't understand why they should inhibit this function. Like the A class my previous car had 'Auto Locking' and it was advertised as one of the safety features. Having said that it also had an inertia switch to unlock the doors in the event of an accident.

It wouldn't be difficult to rig up an inertia switch to do this -

1 Get one from a scrap yard (off any car manufactured in the last 10 years).

2 Fix to centre of car beneath dash area - needs to be to a solid part of the chassis (but reasonably accessible).

3 Wire up a relay between the inertia switch and the door locking mechanism. The relay should be powered to stay closed through the inertia switch. As soon as the inertia switch breaks (ball out of socket) - so does the power to the relay. The switched side of the relay should be spliced into the door switch to either break the power or supply it (parallel / series) (might need help here - all depends on how the door mechanism works!)

Something for someone with a bit more knowledge on central locking solenoids?

So what happens if you manually central-lock the doors and then have an accident?

Are we saying that the doors will stay locked?

Now that's a good point! I'm sure I read that, in the event of an accident, the doors automatically unlock if they have been locked with the door armrest switch (just checked with my dealer and he also thought that, but wasn't certain).

Could it be that, if you have the 'auto-lock at 10mph' set, then that function is disabled

Perhaps that could be the reason for setting the auto-lock being prevented on the 2007 model

Any thoughts from our Honda mechanic members

I have a better question here tho. Is there any other way to enable auto-lock option for 2007 model?

Apparently our unofficial auto lock/unlock feature is a standard thing in the US, it's even in the manual.

will not work...

Today I received my new Honda Civic 1.8i Sport and cannot get the "automatic door locks at 10 mph" work. I got a 2007 model. Is it possible that this will not work? What do I wrong?

Regards,
Dennis

I think it's been prevented on the 2007 model.

I've just received a reply from Honda CC and they advise that the door locks do NOT have an auto sensor in the event of an accident.

Interesting. So it doesn't matter whether we lock manually or automatically?

Automatic it is then!

Talking

Doh !!!!!

I was looking forwards to this feature, but guess the car I picked up last week is a 2007 model as I can't get it to work. I never get the second 'clicking/locking' with the button held down.

Guess I'll have to press the button when i see 10mph, trouble is its usually a bit of a blurrr

I hope Honda top bods are reading this.

Looks like most people want auto locking - I don't understand why they would take this feature out?

Hi!

I've just joined this forum as I got my new Civic SE last week and I got all excited about being able to do this - my mate has just recently got a VW Golf (S version - very basic) and he was saying how the higher range VWs could enable auto-door lock. If I'd been able to do this then I would have out done him! Unfortunately I've got a 07 model - does anyone know what else has changed between 06 and 07 models?

His Golf also lets him open/close his windows by his remote, he holds down unlock and both front windows open, holds down lock and they both shut.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll find something the Civic beats the Golf on...

I have enabled auto locking but I can't enable auto unlocking. the instructions seem to be the same to enable both lock/unlock. Once I enabled auto lock I then carried out the instructions again, but only ended up with auto lock. Am I doing something wrong?

Yep

It's the same except you hold the unlock button.

Thanks for that Pottsy, a case of not reading the instructions carefully enough.

Fabulous - works a treat! Have to drive into Manchester alot where car jumpings at traffic lights in certain less desirable areas are not entirely uncommon. Worry more about my girlfriend than me. Now we won't have to remember to lock the doors manually. Great tip - thanks alot!!

Just picked my 2.2 ES up tonight, and been trying this fix all night, until I read about the feature being removed for 07 models - ours is an 07 /

We had this on our previous Beemer, and I got used to it so much, I will miss the feature

Any way of changing the software/setup to re-add the feature?
