On the positive side, tuning companies are now able to 'chip' the 2.2s via the ODBC port.
Which in theory means that they might be able to do other things via the same port too - with the right software.

So whilst at the moment it can't be done, it might still be possible in the future

Ok... that was easy!
Also been busy using the boardcomputer menu... drove around in MPH settings for a day (usually km/h) got a nice 41MPG... refeuled and put it back to km/h because I found myself driving 100mph on the freeway... which should have been 100km/h... oops, that's playing with my drivers license!
But still... driving like my grandmother in the city, driving 100mph on the freeway scoring 40MPG is nice.
Also tried the speedwarning but got really fed up with it everytime i overtake someone my car starts to warn me i'm speeding.... yeah, i know, you made me!

Set it to MPH? Thought that was impossible for european cars?

Not mine, got the little button on the dash for it. England lives in the 'old' system, what is this 'kilo-meter' people talk about anyways?!

Yeah, meant european mainland cars... Thought it was only possible for UK cars to switch between mph and km/h.

I guess that you have a 2006 model. Mine is 2007 so it won't work...

This is a stupid feature to remove.. I have on order a Type-R GT - I would feel alot safer at traffic lights with the doors locked.. Especially if my wife and kid are in the car.

My Renault Migraine lock automatically - as does the wife's mini. Why doesn't the civic?

I think with the Migraine and Mini they need to keep you in the car at lights to stop you running off.

With the Civic that's not going to be a problem.

With the renault - I have to agree- however the Mini is a fantastic car (I am talking about the BMW one - not the old Austin !)

did they even have central locking on the austin?

I think most times the doors were just stuck - not locked?

Mine had the old plastic strings to open the door, and locking it was a tiny silver sort of paddle switch that you lifted up or down - oh the memories.

Central locking was that it was so narrow that you could easily reach both doors together.

So you are not talking about the real Mini, but the imposter built by BMW.

Just to make this more important - just read in the local rag - last week there were 2 car jackings in the small(ish) town where I live - both whilst sat at lights.. guy just walked up to the car - opened the drivers door and threatens the driver with a crow bar.

One of them was a police woman ! and neither car was flash or particulally new. Imagine how nervous you'd be in a gleaming Type R????

Trip to local car audio/security dealer next weekend me thinks to talk options - There must be an after market system avail - and maybe it'll do the auto folding mirrors/auto closure stuff as well..

Having the automatic locks was good but you dtill had to open them to let people out. The manual system works fine for me, ok it does require some input but you soon get into the habit of locking the doors beofre driving off (a bit like hitting the big sat nav OK button ).

nah - you just have to pull the door handle twice (on the megane and the mini anyway)- first one unlocks the door - second opens it. (or just switch off the ignition - this opened all locks)

if you do need to open them manually - I think that this is preferable to locking them manually - for that one time you forget to lock.....

I can't help thinking there must be a good reason for removing this feature but for the life of me can't think what that might be. Given that you can do the same thing manually, then what safety or technical reason could there be ?
