Easier said than done! This hack is easy because you can find, extract and replace the bmp image in the BIN file. The POI's are well hidden in the code and therefore some serious hacking and coding is required. The guy's in the US on the Honda/Acura forums have been trying for a while now without much success!

I'm sorry to say, I doubt it will ever happen unless Honda update the firmware to allow the bulk import of POI's in a future map update. Again this is unlikley due to thact they would not want to open themselves up to litigation!

Of course I could have done something wrong, but I followed the instructions to the letter and didn’t get any errors.
I got exactly the same result, no errors, just a blank screen. Yes, i followed the destructions explicitly too.

I have the 2005/2006 3.03 version disc, and so I think this screen hack should work. Therefore I'm having a go at it, however I have a problem with the instructions.

What do these bits mean? What do I have to do? Confused with command line stuff...

Hey p64 you need to go to the file properties and take the tick off the read only checkbox

hope that works

I think I used PSP 7 - maybe this is the problem?

kekonline,

That bmp works perfectly for me without going through PSP7. Though I did also put it through PSP7 and saved it as saved2a.bmp, and that also worked fine:

Code:
C:\temp\8216\Release>8to16 save2.bmp Opening1.bmp
palette starts at 00000036
data starts at 00000436

C:\temp\8216\Release>8to16 save2a.bmp Opening1a.bmp
palette starts at 00000036
data starts at 00000436

C:\temp\8216\Release>
I have attached the Opening1.bmp here too.

but it still didn't work, i have the 3.03 dvd and a civic from de 2008 from spain, do you think that make any difference? Any way all civic are nicely made in the uk. i must be doing something wrong and i have no idea.

My 3.03 never had these files (which is odd):
SMGA.bin
A0000_00.MNG
DCA0.REG
PRG_INFO.MNG
UPDATE_APL.exe

Does yours? Have I got this right - you did the bysin thing and it worked, you updated the firmware with a CD and it worked, but when the satnav boots you just get a black screen? Is that what is happening?
