Its seperate - I have made enquiries an its £77 to replace (for the part only inclusive of VAT) which i thought was excessive given that the rest of the dash if only about £43!! At least if Honda change the dash over and it goes wrong it is down to them to put right, my local dealer charges about £40 to replace the dash. |

Adri Civic, it does appear that there is more than 1 type of Type R dash There appears to some confusion as to the price The part number on the invoice I have is H78121SMTE01 £42.62+VAT Thanks again to Pottsy, it was a really easy job. A list of part numbers would be useful, if there are in fact 2 types and the number for the headlight ajuster switch (for us EX owners who want to us it for something else).

I have now had time to take some better photos of the finished project.
Adri Civic, now we know why your dash looked different But the confusion over the price still remains. |

BUT it looks an awful lot better than a scratched one And as I had only cleaned it twice, with a damp microfibre cloth and it was already scratched, I know which I would rather have. |

Collected the dash fasia in lunch hour at work, got home at 5.35pm and whilst still sat in the car I removed the fasia, managed to do it without removing the lower dash trim, had a screwdriver set in glovebox.
Took old fasia and switch gear in the house along with new fasia - transferred the switch gear to new, had tea with wife and little girl and then popped back out to re-fit, by 6.15pm the dash was all done and I was locking the car up for the night. £35 including vat, and yes it was discounted, retails at £42.62+ vat. Part number is 78121-SMT-E01 or at least thats what he printed on the receipt! Looks great and does not look dusty or scratced one bit, think this will wear great - with Pottsy and his how to I would reccomend having a go. It is really dead easy, just take some care and you will be fine. (I was previously a technician but you don't really need any experience, just take your time and have small hands!!) Adri looks to have covered his existing dash with carbonfibre wrap, for £35 (or £50inc retail) I would suggest just buying the Type R fasia!! |

The dealer always has cost price, trade price and then retail - just talk nicely to your parts guy

If the middle section is indeed glued on, could it not be jiggled off and maybe spray colour coded to the car or even masked off and sprayed? A Vivid Blue Car with a colour coded dash would be awsome and so Retro! How about having the plastic sprayed in Alabaster or Champagne Silver for contrast?

Just a footnote to Pottsy's excellent HOWTO.
I've got a 3 day old Type-S, which arrived with a dash scratched to buggery. It also means I'd don't have HIDs. Hence there is a 3rd wire on the right hand side of the dash, for the headlamp adjust, to remove before you yank the old dash fasica off and throw it in the bin Also, all the plugs on the right hand side of the dash have the release clips on the underside. On the left hand side of the dash the VSA has the clip on the right. The air-con sensor on the lower dash has it on the top. Whilst I'm still not sure you can get the white [aircon] tube on without removing the panel under the dashboard anyway, knowing where the release clips are might give you a fighting chance of doing it without. Thanks to Pottsy for breaking the new ground. Cheers, Rich Last edited by richard_jerome; 27th June 2007 at 15:45. |

Just to clarify, when folk are talking about the scratched dash, are they talking about:
The clear plastic window that you view the rev counter through? The opaque, blue plastic surround that encapsulates the main controls? or Both? Sometimes it is not clear which is being discussed. |
