The blue plastic surround can be replaced with Type R (note the HID issue etc) or covered with other material. The clear plastic window is a seperate part that can be replaced seperatly, but there is no new solution for replacing it with anything improved. |

I know, you need to clean it often and with a very soft cloth. If you allow dirt to settle and stick, it will scratch. The only option is to regularly clean it and hope! Its all a bit poo really. I have had many cars and vans, but I have never had this problem before.

I have just bought a 1 year old 1.8 Civic ES from Holdcroft Honda in Stoke and the shiny part of the dash is very badly scratched on one side. I actually quite like the shiny one compared to the Type R version. Does anyone now the part number so I can order it, as this looks relatively easy to do myself.
I rang up my local Dealer in Bolton (Gordon's Honda) and they said it was a difficult job that would take up to 2 hours! Normally I would not bother with such a small imperfection but when it stares back at you whilst your driving it really is beginning to bug me, so I am desperate to get it sorted. |

Replacing the fascia, whether it be with the Type R, or the standard type, is explained in post 1 of this thread. It takes 45 mins at max and requires a screwdriver and a little bit of patience. |

Once you've removed the dash as in post 1, is it then easy to remove the tinted blue perspex part as I'd like to replace just that part?

Just a thought but has anyone tried getting hold of some screen protector material, like the stuff they use on mobile phone screens, to put over the clear bit? Not sure you can get them that big for a phone but you might be able to get a sheet.
So long as you don't yet have any scratches some material like that should prevent it getting any?? |

You're dealing with a curved surface that marks like crazy --trust me, I've got the same anti-reflective coating on my Tablet PC and on the protective plexi cover of my 5" secondary TFT in the bezel of my PC.
You can get a protective screen for the Tablet PC, but it is a bugger to apply neatly without bubbling and that is a perfectly flat, rectangular surface. |

You could easily apply this type of film wet, like you would window tinting and then when the water evapourates out from under the film all should be well. I'm watching this thread with interest as my own dash is starting to get a little scratched. What is appealing to me though it whether we could clear coat (lacquer) this dash surround which will then add a glossy, yet more durable finish. This is one route I am considering trying in the near future, before I give in and fit an R dash. Ian |

Which is the main difference between these one and the factory default for the 5D Sport MT Civic ? They have more brighness ? Much better rear view for the other cars ? Regard the : 1. Clear plastic window that you view the rev counter. 2. The opaque, blue plastic surround that encapsulates the main controls. For 2, I wish to change it with Type-R one, carbon, not so easy to scratch. I see that the prices are high enough for this piece and it can't be purchased from somewhere else than Europe For 1 can someone tell me which could be the price or the part number? At my 2 years Civic old that piece has a lot of scratches even I handle it gentle with cotton piece...I think is the worst piece of the entire car and is very sad that there is not available aftermarket replacement... and..Pottsy..thank you for the "How to"...excellent part Last edited by amidamaru; 27th June 2008 at 09:28. |

@amidamaru: for scatches you can get polish for plastic and remove scratches with it...I know in UK they use Brasso and in my country you can get Xerapol....I tried it first on my old phone and it works.....If you can get xerapol you can use it with hand or machine....

Agree - you can remove the scratches with a bit of patience.
My solution was : 1) Brasso 2) Wet wipe it off before it dries 3) Meguiars ScratchX (to remove the remnants of the Brasso) 4) Turtle Wax ICE (applied and buffed with a soft Meguiars polishing cloth) I was amazed at the results. |

Well....some things was changed indeed...believe me that we have the most expensive car lot in the Europe
Don't you know that the Romania is for VW the most representative market ??? We have the same number of the VW Touareg and Audi Q7 that all the rest of Europe has even we don't not have road infrastructure ? Why so large SUV market...because the roads suck. Don't you know that BMW, Mercedes, Maserati and another luxury car company's have a entire list of waiting for Romania....? Well, then you don't know nothing...about the UK cars like Range Rover HSE, etc..bad news for you...these people are off the lights here... Yes...we have a beautiful country but is very bad that it has citizens Believe me...if you want at some moment in time to came with car in Bucharest contact me to show you how is to be every day WRC driver I have Honda because I live Honda and I don't care about some else opinions...here everything is image... Upon all these are also good things but I'm off topic from some time .. Regard the topic...yes..the things for plastic treatment described here need it to be acquired from Internet, there are not present locally..unfortunately.. I've just been through the process of removing my facia to add extra padding around the edges to reduce rattle/squeak - hopefully fixed although it has does vary according to ambient outside temperatures.
I had a bit of a job reattaching the pipe to the lower dash - any hints on how to do this without removing the skin from the top of your knuckles? |
