So the ideal solution would be to place some sort of delaying device between the connectors. Car starts: delay activates for say 20 seconds, after that it enables the connection. If you have your belt on by then - no problems, otherwise it would start beeping.

The bleep immediately thing is actually far less "safe" since it does not act as a reminder, more like something that is annoying and we are more likely to tune out to it. If we didnt hear it that often, its more likely to be effective.

Maybe the difference between the SE and the EX is why the footwell cabling looks different? |

Thanks Pottsy! I got your email, and I understand how the curcuit is set up now - which makes sense. Unless the car was capable of driving itself you'd never need occupancy detection for the driver's seat! lol
I just got worried last night about the thought of peoples airbags not going off! I can see that it won't affect that, so long as your belt is done up. In effect doing this mod should make it even more likely for you to wear your selt belt, as if you weren't the airbag would probably take your head off your shoulders! |

Yes, it's vital you wear your belt - if anyone plans to not wear it then they should not do this. As you say having your head/chest impacted by the airbag will only add to the misery of the broken pelvis.

I always wear my belt, always have, always will. And it's not the beeping which makes me do it; however the beeping really doesn't bother me as it's about 5 seconds between starting the engine and putting my belt on. I think as BG said, I've just tuned it out now.

Yet again Pottsy, you have made the Civic a better car to live with.
Kudos to you. What's next on your list |

I am working so hard on removing the satnav nag screen. More of a personal challenge than anything else. But I'm travelling parallel to the finish line...
I'm just making a £5 device to fulfil CopyCatz idea above... |

The beep was annoying, but it DID make sure you put your seat belt on, now with no beep, on a busy morning, when you're running late it could be easy to forget your belt. Lots of people won't wear them anyway. But I've seen enough people mangled in cars, wrapped around trees and in red puddles on the road to have real issues with taking away a safety feature that reminds people. Worst one I saw the person was decapitated as they went through the windscreen. I hope I never have to knock doors at 4am again.
As Pottsy says only do it if you can trust yourself to remember to belt up without the beeper. If you can't, play safe and leave it. I just have issues with removing any safety device and a seatbelt is the one thing that WILL save your life. Rant over |

It is so easy to forget simple things JUST LIKE YOUR SEAT BELT , imagine this knock at your door for your family to see a police man standing their with a somber look ,knowing it is bad news ,the mum having to explaining to the children daddy's gone to heaven, if only he was wearing his seat belt he would have still been here . also take a moment for that poor police officer having to knock at the door, also the poor ambulance men and fire brigade having to scoop your remains up. you may now understand why the beeper is so important to leave it connected, |

I don't think anyone is suggesting that seat belts shouldn't be worn.
however - do I personally put my seat belt on just because some bleepy thing is annoying me? No Have I ever had a bleepy thing before? No Have I ever (and I mean ever) driven anywhere without my belt on? No Even before it was illegal? No Is not having a bleepy thing going to make me foget to put my belt on? No Am I above the age of consent? Yes Yes - for those people who are in the habbit of forgetting to put their belt on, it's a boon. For me - it's a bit like the alarm clock that is kept next to the bed. On the day when I'm that tired, I will ignore it and oversleep anyway - a bleepy noise isn't going to make any difference. |
