No dedication, and you're supposed to be a mod!

I find the beep very annoying, but at least it is not as bad as the Avensis I used to have. On that, if you drove without your seatbelt on (which I only ever did very slowly inside a car park when I was moving the car a short distance and was about to get out again) it would beep and then BEEP and then SCREEEEECH at you.

I always wear my seatbelt, and the ONLY time I forgot was on the Civic test drive! I was so busy working out what all the controls were for that it slipped my mind.

Thanks, now I've finally silenced the beeper.
I never ever drive without the seatbelt buckled; twenty years of practice have shown that I don't need any device to tell me this.
So it was good to get the car stripped for this noise which might cause distraction and block useful information.
Let's keep simple matters simple.

Lightbulb Stop Seatbelt beeper

Why not disconnect the plug and attach a new loop circuit to an axtra switch under the clutch ?
That way pressing down the clutch would make the circuit and "hay presto" the beeper would work !
That way you will be reminded only when you forget, and only when you go to drive off ! If you didn't put your belt on, you would be reminded at every gear change!

I think this would fulfill all of the required safety features and also stop the annoying Beep in a very simple fix.

So how would the i-shifters do?
But in principle, it is far better to start the beep when you put the car in motion...

I will put the old grey matter in motion on that one!

What a good question, I had not thought of an iShift solution, as I would never consider owning one myself.

I maybe some time on this one!

Got it.

This one would work for all and is simpler to do.

Same as the clutch, but under the handbreak lever instead. That way it would only sound when you are in motion or the handbreak is not applied!

In record time!

Nice idea!

This is the handbrake on:

hb_on.jpg

And off:

hb_off.jpg

And from the rear:

hb_back.jpg

The beeper circuit needs to have an earth only when the handbrake is released. So re-connect the plug, snip the black wire and connect the snipped bit that is not earthed to your new wire.

A reminder of the plug area:

seatbelt_connector.jpg

Run this wire to the handbrake area, and this wire needs to be earthed when the handbrake is released, so I would do something like this:

Insulate this bit of the handbrake:

mod1.jpg

Use a self tapper and clamp:

mod2.jpg

And attach like this:

mod3.jpg

Now attach your wire to the self tapper. It will earth when the lever is released.

I didn't bother, because I like it as it is, but this may be useful for someone forgetful...

i really dont see why you all find it so annoying.

If you have a diesel you need to put the ignition on and wait for the coils. So the natural thing to do is to:
  1. Climb in and turn the coils on.
  2. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
  3. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
  4. Put your belt on.
  5. As soon as your belt is on, your coils are ready and you press start.
This mod eliminates steps 2 and 3.

I achieve the same (No step 2 & 3), you could too get a 1.8! Click the image to open in full size.

Can you not put your belt on whilst waiting for the coils then?

I shall re-write the list to make it clearer:
  1. Climb in and turn the coils on.
  2. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
  3. Reach back to get the belt.
  4. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
  5. Pass the belt over you.
  6. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
  7. Plug it in.
  8. Silence.
  9. Press start.
