How to make side marking lights from the mirror indicators

I made an extra use of the side indicators in the mirrors.
Injecting a low current into the LED indicators, they can serve as nighttime side markers (like some Volvo, BMW has them in the bumpers..), also giving the car something extra.
The indicator function remains active of course.
(only for cars with retractive mirrors, due to the voltage needed).
You only need a diode and a resistor (x2) (if you can not find it, I can mail it )

Here are the instructions

It uses the original LED cluster, Is it white in the type R?
furthermore white would not be legal.
Side markers (or how you call them) are orange.

I added the instructions to the first post.
The LED's are only ON if the contact is ON and the mirrors are NOT retracted.
If you do not have retracting mirrors, you could use the same trick and locate the indicator wires at the inside of the car...

Since the LED's are only ON when the contact is ON, there is no influence on the battery.

My next quest is however to connect these side LED's to the Alarm LED.
Now the alarm indicator LED is allmost invisible in the instrument panel.

I can understand why, but surely that would affect the battery condition after a reasonably short while?

Do like the 'lights' bit tho'.

Good on ya pal.

Now where did I put that welding torch!

Sorry for the confusion ;

Contact= ignition key
So as long as the Ignition = ON the side markers are ON.
These side markers do not serve to "'find"the car.

If you can not find your car, you are looking in the wrong place.

not only would it be illegal lol, but you would have to have another led which would be difficult, or remove the amber one,, thus making it completely illegal

Correct, debating with colleagues whether the original mod is legal in the UK or not. I'll have a verdict shortly!
