Good work! Good and brave!

You might want to be careful. If you have it on for extended periods of time as the amp is mounted upside-down, it will overheat.

I will (finally) be starting my install soon! I will take some photos and post them up 2

Sorry I haven't replied for a while but wanted the chance to test the system over an extended period. I have just returned from a 1700 mile 'road trip' followed by a couple of car shows where the system was run for up to 4 hours at a time with no problems. Certainly when the car is in motion there is reasonable ventilation under the seats throuigh the air con system. It will be interesting to see if the position has any effect on the life of the components in the longer term.

For 'remote' I used wire that goes to antenna amplifier from HU.

Unfortunately this may be a nescessity, however there is a 12V accessory feed on the back of the cigar lighter which would do pretty much the same job (I used this feed for a speed detector). You may fuse this individually just to be on the safe side. My advice would still be to connect at the head unit a you probaby need to get here to pick up the high inputs for an amp.

You could pull those off a door speaker.

But rear of HU for both would be a neater install.

Hi SJ

You have a very impressive set up and obviously know what you are doing!

I am considering installing the same Pioneer mini sub under the rear seats. I have never installed a sub before and have a few questions that I cant find advice on on the forum.

1 How much of an improvement does the pioneer offer? It is very small relative to most subs.
.
2 As this sub is very small (rated at 150W), I was thinking of taking the power from one of the power / cigarette sockets in either the boot or the front console (properly wired in). Is this OK? The sub looks like only a small part of the electrical load on your set up and therefore a lead to the battery for only the mini sub may not be necessary.
.
3 I was going to fit the Pioneer using Velcro patches stuck to the underside of the seat base. This would allow easy removal when I want to lower the seats. How did you fix your sub to the seat base and what do you think to the velcro idea?

Thanks

Munro,

These units do a good job for their size, but will not sound like a conventional component sub and amp set up, however in the cabin they are effective and the bass contoller is a neat feature to balance the system.

In theory the unit only draws 10A which is the max of the output in the boot although I am unsure how it would cope in practice. This is also not a permanent feed so this will limit its use.

Some velcro is very strong but is only as good as the adhesive and I would worry about this as the sub is hanging upside down. You could staple velcro to the underside of the seat but what about fixing to the unit itself?
I used self tapping screws and have experienced no problems.

Hope this helps

SJ

ive just run the power cable. and it took me ages!!!!!!! about 3 hours in the end! what a palava! probably didnt help that i was using 10mm2 cable!

the hardest part was getting it throught the bulkhead out of the engine bay!

in all my previous cars ive managed to run all the cables in less that an hour! this was just so awkward! and it was only one cable, i cant belive how long it took!
