How To wire-in Valentine One Radar/Laser detector
This How To covers "Direct Wire" installation of Valentine One (V1) Radar/Laser detector http://www.valentine1.com into your Civic.
I prefer to have the V1 located in the center of the windshield just below the rear mirror, therefore it is not very comfortable to have the V1 powered by the cig. lighter and lead the power cord all the way through the dash to the V1. So I decided to have it powered from the front interior light. Here is how I did it: 1. Unmount the cover - use a small screwdriver in one of the front corners and pull the cover down. 2. Unmount the black panel - remove the two screws and unplug it from the bunch of wires. 3. Find a suitable place for the Direct Wire adapter as I did and stick it with some adhesive to the black panel. v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_04.jpg v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_05_01.jpg 4. Take the bunch of cables you removed from the black panel and find the light blue one (12V). I found this one to be suitable (the other ones are connected to the dimmer or don't have 12V). But be careful, the light blue wire is "always-on", so it is powered even if the ignition is OFF. No problem to me, I always turn off the V1 or take it out of the car (because of thieves..). Now connect the red wire from the Direct Wire adapter to the light blue one (you may shorten the red wire, make the isolation of the both wires off and put them together and isolate them). Finally plug in the bunch of cables to the black panel. v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_08.jpg v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_09.jpg 5. Take one end of the RJ11 straight power cable and put it through the square hole as shown on the pictures below. v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_02.jpg v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_06.jpg 6. Connect the other end of the RJ11 cable to the Direct Wire adapter, put the black GND wire through a hole so it comes out front and screw it on so we have ground in place. v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_07.jpg v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_10.jpg Screw on the second screw of the black panel. v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_03_01.jpg 7. Mount on the cover, power on the V1 and enjoy your ride v1_-_civ_-_wire-in_01.jpg 8. Optionally you can stick the RJ11 cable to the black cover (one which covers the rain sensor) right behind the rear mirror. That's all folks! |

Excellent guide - thank you. Here in the UK radar guns have all but disappeared (as has my trusty Valentine 1) but this guide is just as useful for mounting a small GPS/laser detector up there.
