I am going to add one under dash on the left of the car and was thinking of puttin one in the back of the armrest module for people in the back of the car to use. Got to have a look see if there is space to mount it.

Isn't there a way to connect the cigarett holder directly on a connector on the fuse box? And have the same result by connecting it on the cig lighter.

Grtz

Yes there is. You can use a mini bypass fuse holder and your in luck because they are made by CarpointEurope in the Netherlands (carpointeurope.com). Catalogue no: 08.100.19

Thx for teh reply,

Ok, so far i see, this is only for the + cable. Is there also a fuse i can use for this bypass? Or must i use a empty place? And where can i connect the - cable with?

I'm not so know with electra.

You need to decide whether you want the accessory live only when the ignition is on or earlier. Ignition position 1 or 2.
Remove any fuse in whichever group you choose, place the fuse in the bypass fuse holder and slot it back in the fuse box.
The additional fuse slot on the bypass holder is for your accessory and the instructions that come with the accessory should tell you which size fuse is needed. Usually 1 or 2 amp.
The negative (-) can go to an adjacent bolt.

Ok, thats clear. And what if i wanna build-in a cigarette holder with a fuse(holder) (5A) already connected to it. Can i choose between this fuse or let it away en plug in a 5A fuse in the additional fuse slot? It's for my active Brodit PDA-holder.

Grtz

I really don't understand the current obsession in wiring in ever more cigarette lighter sockets but if that's what you want....in theory you can add as many bypass fuses to your fuse box as there are fuses in the box.
You will need to add a fuse in the bypass fuse holder otherwise you won't get any current through and that needs to be 5 amp or larger.

I have a Garmin GPS and Motorola V3 phone, both use USB voltage chargers. I was considering fitting two USB sockets into the dash (near to the 'A' pillar) and then shorten some standard USB leads using replacement plugs from Maplin. The USB charger could then be hidden near to the fusebox, just as you have with yours.

Be careful - you will have to install a voltage regulator circuit as if I remember correctly, the two outer pins in a usb socket (Inner pins are the signal lines) are for the power and it is 5 volts not 12 volts.

Thanks for the very kind offer Mark, but I have just found an old "powered" Belkin USB Hub that I think I can use instead. It uses a 240v to 12v PSU and so I only need a stabilised 12v from the car to power upto 4 items at once. I will have to investigate further, but may mount it under the easily removed side panel of the dash. That way no real dash modification is needed and I can use the OEM Garmin and Motorola USB Computer leads pushed under the trim rubber.

I'm not confident enough to remove a car dash to get to where I originally wanted to mount the USB.

Bottle Gone and plan changed.

Just do it, seriously it's not that hard; I'm completely butter fingers and I managed fine!
Just take your time over it and it'll be fine.
