My sollution was to use the side mirror LED indicators, also as alarm indicator.
- Makes the Alarm LED realy visible
- Scares burglers
- Makes the car visible when parked in the dark
- Includes also dimmed side indicators during driving.
- My circuit consumes only 30mA during LED activation
- No electrical contact with car electronics ( use of optical sensor near the original alarm LED, at the back of the instruments)

Will post a how to soon here. Unfortunately it will require some serious skills in electronics.

Here is a movie what to expect:

Wont that drain out the car battery...

Stef wrote that the current draw is only 30mA. Nothing to worry about.

Furthermore the rate is about 0.5secs ON and 3 secs OFF
So actually the average constant current is less then 5mA !

The worst case Civic battery (1.4) can handle 28000mA during 1 hour.

I estimate the idle current of the car to be about 75mA, this would mean that the car can stay 20 days without charge.

I'm perfectly happy with the little alarm light on the dash, but as some of you are not, I thought that I would have a fiddle with it, instead of finishing some poor b-ggers plans, which he thinks I had finished last week.
I wear contact lenses, so I placed an old one over the led light.
It don't half make a difference.
So, I believe a 15mm dia' clear plastic concave or is it convex job, which are sometimes found on the ends of ballpoint pens, would do the job nicely.

I can say that this feature is very convenient, I never ever have to go back to the car to check if it is closed or not.
