painting dashboard to Type R look

here is simply way for makeing your dash to look like one in Type R for small amount of money.....I translated guide and got pictures in right place so you could understand it easily.....(forgive me if some part of translation are in gram. order)......guide is from spanish forum.....

Material:

-nerve and time to take apart dashboard-special primer for plastic and metal-black spray-sintetic mat spray (but it has to be the one with glow effect)

Sprays used

painting dashboard panel_img_0.jpg

You have to use special primers for plastic and metal in 2 layers. Wait some time for primers to dry and then use black spray to paint the dash. Use 3 layers of black spray wait for it to dry. And now finaly use sintetic mat spray or some black (mat) spray for glow so the black color gets some brightness. When you get to final step use only 1 layer of glow or 2 if you don't like the result. Before putting together the dash wait to see if all the layers are dry and all areas are painted same.

When I heard the word 'painting' I was expecting the worst but that actually looks OK

Also has the bonus of not having a blank hole on the EX versions.

I think if it had the nerve to take the dash apart I would buy the Type R dash and refit. I wouldn't have the patience to paint.

Looks good - but wouldn't the paint start to peel away?

I talked to owner and now for about 13 months he hadn't any problem with it....I have made something like this on my ex-car and the paint never came off (I had it for 3 years) and it was in sun parked almost all the time......I think the only problem is to get good and quality sprays for this kind of job because there are lots of brands of spray to buy....

Do that to my shiny and scratch free dashboard ? Never !
Like the way it is and just taking care of removing dust gently...

I like the original design and I found the R type one... Mmmm... "dated ?"
There is another technic with a carbon film shown somewhere here... Found that not too bad.

I like the result, too!
Looks very professional and of course it's much cheaper than the original TR dash

The best idea is to take care of the one supplied.

Can't get better than that I reckon!

Looks really good, but I think that I wouldn't have the patience to do all that layering of paint and waiting for it to dry!

A good job but the type R dash is only around £50. So when mine gets scratched, I'll probably go down that route. I have heard of dealers replacing it under warranty, why not with a type R one instead.
If you dont ask, you dont get!!

I would want to linger at the opening pages of chapter one myself...

It wont peel of if you use right kind of primer! The plastic linolefin is no problem to paint! We paint plasticparts all day at work! ;=)

Even car parts I see.
Perhaps repainting Civic dashboards is a good business idea?

One could hope! ...

Obviously I havent seen it in real life, but if it is as good as it looks, for me this could be an official fix. They could paint a bunch a fit them as replacements for those who complain.

Scratch resistance on the blue bit in front of the rev counter is more difficult, but this seems realistic.

Must admit it looks OK, my dash is scratched and I have used only microcloth, lens cleaner and very soft monitor cleaner and not a Brillo pad.
It's like my son's 1st Gen Apple Ipod Nano, it scratched it's self without any help. Obviously Honda uses the same manufacturer of mickey mouse grade plastic. I bought a neoprene cover for the Ipod.......what would that look like on the Dash?????????

When I read the thread title I imagined it would be the sort of thing that would end in tears. You managed to do a pretty good job though.
