Gear knob polish how to
Ok don't no If this would interest anyone but my type r gear Knobs paint was wearin off so I decided to polish it.
Basically u need some glass paper 120 and300 grit I used. But use watever you have but u do need some fine glass paper. A M10 bolt or threaded bar, Drill Autosol (most people used this for polishing exhaust tips) And a rag. So remove gear knob, cut head off bolt and screw into knob. Put other end in drill. Make sure the drill goes the correct way so knob dosnt unscrew. Get the courser paper, start drill and start sanding. Don't press on to hard just take ** time. Once it all looks even get the next grade of paper and do it again to make it smooth. ![]() ![]() Once smooth enough use plenty of autosol on a rag and polish. Then clean bit of rag remove polish. As the red gear numbers are resesed in mine didn't rub off. ![]() But personaly I thought the chrome gear knob looked odd so I used the fine grit paper to give it the brushed ally look in pic2. So obviously if that's the case with you don't polish it with autosol. Hope I make sense and that i can save some people a few quid. graham |
