Yep - that's virtually identical what I have done apart from my foam is thicker and I managed to cut it from one piece.

The results are a very responsive HFT system that you can almost whisper into at any speed and you don't have to be facing the mic either.

Kremmen, I found that even a quietly spoken four year old in the rear seats could hold a conversation when we were doing 70 mph, so it's working well for me too!

Agree with that - it picks up everything now.

Some interesting results when you have passengers who wont keep quiet when you press the button to issue a command

I'm still trying to resist leaning left and pointing my mouth towards the mic as it's no longer a requirement.

Is the HFT mic used for the voice recognition system as well.

Yes it is the same mic.
I find mine is fine.

Maybe having LHD helps?
I have not modded at all.

Hi guys

seems you have sorted the EX HFT perfectly!

Can I ask exactly what tape you used from B&Q to get this working? Would like to apply it too mine to get it working!

So all you did was tape around the mic with this strip, put the casing back on, and then it's much much better?

As-is, its just not usable...

Thanks a lot!

It's thin brown draught excluder tape from B&Q, sticky on one side only. I just stuck it on to the top of the mic case, making sure I left a nice hole in the middle.

worked a treat for me

My test bed was calling my voicemail and ranting about the colour of the cows etc (Black & White) on a country road for a couple of minutes at speeds 30 to 60mph.

Before 1st call-Didn't change anything from the Honda original factory fit.

Before 2nd call - I cut a square surround of soft foam (the type of stuff they use in those cheap liquid shoe polishers) with a stanley knife and stuck it in as the photo above.

Before 3rd call - I cut a square surround of harder foam (I used tubed central heating pipe lagging, Ģ1 at B&Q) and cut the same square surround.

This final rant was the clearest of the three, Hard foam worked for me

You have to cut it pretty thin (less than 5mm) to ensure that the surround is not proud.

Cheers

I ended up asking the dealer (Aylesbury) to take a look at it , as it was in for something else, and they applied the official "HFT fix", which has done the job because since then I've had no "I can't hear you!" comments.... so all good on that front!

Originally I was satisfied with the mic performance - was only using it for voice commands.

Then - I paired up a bluetooth phone and did not receive any sound quality complaints from people I was talking to, BUT the voice recog was terrible. 2-3-4 tries to get it to call numbers in the ´book. Switched to German twice, said "hash" "five" "seven" or whatever more times than I care to remember.

Also, switching to studded winter tyres with more road noise made things worse.

So, I took some P-shaped draught excluder I have lying around.
I found it easier to attach to the plastic grill than the mic with foam on.
A little bulge is now visable on the platic cover if you know where to look.

Will report back after some more use on how well this works.

Have you changed your interior lights to blue FWH.
Or do they come in blue and not white in Sweden. ??

It is the blue LED mod.
LEDs from autobulbs.

Part details here: 10% off at AutobulbsDirect - and list of common items for the Civic

I have also changed the rear interior light and boot light.
Very cool in the dark.

We get the same white bulbs as everyone else here.

A week after my mod I am confident it improves.
It is not 100%, but it is much better.

Bear in mind added backround noise from studded tyres at the moment.

Bluetack

I have had my Civic for 9 months and tried most of the ideas posted. These have improved things but still not fantastic. However last week I tried bluetack as a replacement for the foam. Works very very well

Are you leg-pulling?

You covered the mic in bluetack?

Mine is better but still not great, so I am willing to try new ideas, but this is a joke, right?

Surely the mic needs to be moved over to the right hand side for RHD cars?

It has been tried.
But Honda donīt build them like that.

I think it is only possible with non glass roof cars.
