How to completely dismantle the CD player (to clean the laser lens)

Hello fellow civic owners.

I have just bought a 2007 type S and it came with the CD player not working. The message 'DISC ERROR' would come up whatever CD I put in. As the previous owner was a smoker, I figured that the lens would be dirty. I bought a comercially available lens cleaner which did nothing. So I had no choice but to get to the lens.

Thanks to the other how to guides on this forum I was able to get the radio onto the living room floor and proceed with the dismantling.

This is going to be a picture story as they are self explanatory. The moral of the story is to remove every single screw in sight!

Begin:

Click the image to open in full size.

Remove all the screws holding the radio to the front plastic. There are three clips above and below the unit holding it onto the front plastic. Unclip these using a flat head screwdriver.

Click the image to open in full size.

Like this:

Remove all the screws holding the heatsink and remove the heatsink:

Like this:

Remove all these screws as well:

Click the image to open in full size.

And all of these:

Click the image to open in full size.

Now remove the bottom screws and cover:

Click the image to open in full size.

The one tab in the corner needs to be bent as shown to release the circuit board:

Click the image to open in full size.

The circuit board should come out like this. Disconnect the CD drive cable as you remove:

Click the image to open in full size.

If you have removed all the screws in sight, the CD drive should just come out:

Click the image to open in full size.

Like so:

Click the image to open in full size.

Remove the two tiny screws:

Click the image to open in full size.

And remove the cover like so:

Click the image to open in full size.

To get the other half off, slide to one side and it should come off its hinges:

Click the image to open in full size.

Like so:

Click the image to open in full size.

Now clean the lens with a soft brush and some lens cleaning fluid:

Click the image to open in full size.

Wipe dry with a paper towell if necessary.

Reassemble in the reverse order and the CD player should now work!

Good job and good how to . I would avoid doing this on a static surface like a carpet if you are going to try this.
