How to completely dismantle the CD player (to clean the laser lens)
Hello fellow civic owners.
I have just bought a 2007 type S and it came with the CD player not working. The message 'DISC ERROR' would come up whatever CD I put in. As the previous owner was a smoker, I figured that the lens would be dirty. I bought a comercially available lens cleaner which did nothing. So I had no choice but to get to the lens. Thanks to the other how to guides on this forum I was able to get the radio onto the living room floor and proceed with the dismantling. This is going to be a picture story as they are self explanatory. The moral of the story is to remove every single screw in sight! Begin: ![]() Remove all the screws holding the radio to the front plastic. There are three clips above and below the unit holding it onto the front plastic. Unclip these using a flat head screwdriver. ![]() Like this: ![]() Remove all the screws holding the heatsink and remove the heatsink: ![]() Like this: ![]() Remove all these screws as well: ![]() And all of these: ![]() Now remove the bottom screws and cover: ![]() The one tab in the corner needs to be bent as shown to release the circuit board: ![]() The circuit board should come out like this. Disconnect the CD drive cable as you remove: ![]() If you have removed all the screws in sight, the CD drive should just come out: ![]() Like so: ![]() Remove the two tiny screws: ![]() And remove the cover like so: ![]() To get the other half off, slide to one side and it should come off its hinges: ![]() Like so: ![]() Now clean the lens with a soft brush and some lens cleaning fluid: ![]() Wipe dry with a paper towell if necessary. Reassemble in the reverse order and the CD player should now work! |
