[How To] Type R Spoiler fitting to Type S

Hopefully i'm not going over old ground here, but i've recently fitted a Type R spoiler to my Type S with no major problems. I would post some photo's but my camera got half inched on a recent trip to Budapest.
The fitting is relitively straight forward if you have a mate trained as an Aston Martin body tech plus his own work shop in High Wycombe.
If anyone needs the inside track on my contact or any aspect of the fitting just let me know. And for the record, it wasn't glued on!!

The type R spoiler comes with 4 square headed bolts which are located in slots on the under-side of the spoiler itself. In order to familiarise yourself with the spoilers final resting place on the tailgate i suggest you remove the bolts from spoiler by sliding the captured bolts out. Position the spoiler in place and then by tilting the spoiler up and looking underneath you will now see where the bolt ends would have made contact with the perpex tailgate, the purpose being to avoid any premiture marking from the bolt ends. Apply at least 2 x layers of masking tape to the rough bolt contact points. Re-attach the bolt heads to the spoiler and re-position spoiler as before carefully marking the bolt contact points prior to drilling. This is the part where you start to sweat a little and question your accuracy!!. Ideally its a two person job, each holding one end of the spoiler and assessing that you have positioned the drill holes correctly. Pilot drill the holes using a new 3mm/4mm drill, once done offer the spoiler up for a second time just to make sure that the profile on the tailgate lines up with the same profile on the underside of the spoiler. Now re-drill using a 11.5mm or 12mm drill to accept the barrel section of the bolt. The spolier assembly should now locate home with the bolts passing through the perpex. From inside the tailgate itself, gently pull away the plastic trim that is curently hiding the exit points of your drill holes/threaded ends of the bolts and using at least 30mm dia washers and an M6 nut, everything can be loosely tightened up as a pre-fit check. Note: On the bolt ends exiting near the tail-light assembly, you will need to trim-off one side of the washer to avoid fouling problems. Remove spoiler again. The final stage is the infilling (to the correct depth) of the rebates using a fibre glass resin mix where the bridge plates are found at each end of the spoiler itself (i didn't fancy attempting the precision drilling at angles to use these attaching points). Once F/Glass pad is hard, an application of Sikoflex to the F/glass areas only does the trick prior to refitting the spoiler in its final resting place and tightning up the whole assembly. On a final note, use several strips of masking tape to each end of the spoiler to ensure contact pressure while the Sikoflex bonds over night. Job done!!
If all this sounds daunting, the HRD body shop can carry-out the work for £175 and give you peace of mind.

Had wheels for my Jag reconditioned next door, and while i was in there i enquired with HRD how much to spray the plastic trim of my Type S. I might get this done in the next few weeks.

Any Honda dealer should be able to sell you the CTR spoiler. Check with your dealer for local pricing.

So long as you go to a reputable body shop I don't see there being a problem. I had mine done and I'd thoroughly reccomend it! They took all the plastic off, sanded it down smooth and primed it before spraying it. Brilliant job!
